THE CHARITIES
WE SUPPORT
The Davenies Ball is a time to have fun, but also to support the boys’ chosen
charities. Your donations from the 2022 ‘Havana Nights’ Ball will go towards the
boys’ nominations of: Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity, Young Minds,
The Christian Eye Foundation and Go Beyond. As you may know, each year the
boys, in their respective houses, vote on a charity to champion. This process
is educational for all and on multiple levels: understanding what a charity is,
gaining knowledge on the different charities out there, the importance of giving
(knowing they are part of a wider community) and actively supporting that
choice. The boys’ energy and enthusiasm to ‘do good’ by their selection is palpable.
Please help us (and your boys) in supporting these incredible charities.
Further to that, this year, our aims for FoD will be supporting the NEW SciTech
Centre (opening Autumn 2023). Science and technology are core elements of
the curriculum for all students nationwide. In recognition of the importance of
these subjects and the School’s aims to prepare our boys for the challenges of
senior school and future employment, the SciTech Centre is an exciting and
fantastic project. Boys from year 3 - 8 will have the opportunity to study in a
state of the art facility, inspiring them to experience, learn and innovate - key
skills of the future. Not only this, the new SciTech building will be a hub of
education for the wider community to access through science mornings, school
challenges, camps and undoubtedly more. Friends of Davenies will also be
working towards a challenging and fun climbing wall and other items to enhance
the benefit of the boys’ educational experience here at school. Over the years we
have been privileged, through donations such as yours, to substantially enhance
the boys’ experience through items such as cricket mats, outdoor reading pods,
gazebos to shelter the boys from inclement weather (especially needed through
Covid), and much much more. We are ever so grateful for your endless support
and thank you for donating to such worthy, and lasting, causes.
The Christian Eye Foundation
The Christian Eye Foundation supports elderly and
vulnerable people in our communities in Buckinghamshire.
We won the Hero of Beaconsfield Award
presented by Joy Morrissey MP for our assistance
to the community during the covid period and we
were also awarded a British Empire Medal by HM The
Queen for service to the community.
We also provide a lot of help to villages, orphanages
and schools in Ghana, West Africa. We donate warm
clothes to people in need in Romania and as many
people were displaced from Ukraine to Poland recently
we drove to Poland and gave the Ukrainian
women and children food, clothes and money that
was kindly donated to the charity. There are several
Ukrainian families with young children we send
money to every week at the moment.
GO BEYOND: Giving breaks that last a lifetime
Very simply, we are a charity giving children who
have been bereaved, abused or bullied, who are living
in poverty or are young carers, the chance to escape
their worries and pressures through breaks in the
countryside. Our mission is the help these children
see beyond their day-today challenges to a bigger,
brighter future. Over the last 30 years, we have
supported over £18,000 children with completely
free breaks at one of dedicated centres.
ROALD DAHL’S
MARVELLOUS CHILDREN’S CHARITY
As a charity that works in partnership with the NHS,
we find innovative ways to ensure that children and
families have the care and support they need. We do
this through improving the healthcare outcomes and
resilience of children and families, and we focus on
complex, lifelong conditions that are underfunded
and under resourced.
The outcomes we are aiming to achieve are:
• Improved quality of care
• Improved experience of care
• Improved efficiency and cost effectiveness of care
• Improved resilience of seriously ill children and their
familiesThe Christian Eye Foundation
YOUNG MINDS
YoungMinds’ purpose is to stop young people’s mental
health reaching crisis point. We want to create a world
where no young person feels alone with their mental
health, by making sure they get the mental health
support they need, when they need it, no matter what.
Through our online information and advice they are
helping young people to look after their own mental
health. From quick practical tips to helping young
people get through a particularly tough day, to more
detailed information about symptoms, feelings and
conditions, co created with young people with lived
experience.
Our parents’ helpline is there to support parents and
carers who are worried about their child’s mental
health. By innovating our services they were able to
support 45% more parents compared with 2019. Our
crisis text line is available 25/7 for any young person
who needs immediate help. Our trained volunteers will
text anyone who reaches out. Lives have been saved
through this service.
We are building a youth-led movement to ensure
support is there for anyone who needs it. They create
opportunities for young people across the UK to work
with the organisation. They bring major companies together
with Activists to make sure changes to policy and
practice work for young people and their mental health.
