Preserving the Ephemeral Description
Preserving the Ephemeral is a representation of my changing perspectives on life and
death. One could look at the preservation of flowers as a waste of time as they no longer hold the
same vibrancy or beauty as when they were alive. Similarly, I had found it disheartening that I
could never return to the innocence of my youth and that people I loved could leave my life
either by growing apart or by death. I tried to forget these memories. As I have grown older, I
have found that it does not have to be a negative practice to reflect on happier times of the past
even if I can never feel exactly the way I did in those moments. I find it fulfilling to appreciate
and carry these moments and people who are no longer in my life with me. Likewise, it is a
meaningful process to try to retain the beauty of flowers by pressing them rather than throwing
them away.
