Summit Art Glass No. 574 Covered Dolphin was produced between 1979-2005.
Russel Vogelsong purchased the mold from Joe St. Clair in 1978. From 1979-
1984, Vogelsong commissioned Mosser Glass Inc. to pour glass into his Dolphin
Molds. In 1984, Russ and wife Joann had their own glass factory built and as of
August 1984, Summit Art Glass Co. produced their own Covered Dolphins. By
1985, they began marking their animal covered dishes with 'V' inside a ring.
Summit Dolphins are identical to St. Clair/Joe St. Clair Dolphins: both have 19
total teeth, deep body cavities and smooth lids (undersides). Occasionally,
Summit will have rough lids. Unmarked Summits in similarly made St.
Clair/Joe St. Clair colors are difficult to ID. The broad variety of Summit Art
Glass colors can be helpful. Also helpful, Summit Dolphins were produced in
both sawtooth rim and beaded rim (a small row of tiny beads line the Dolphins'
mouths). Beaded Rims were made later on. St. Clair/Joe St. Clair did not make
beaded rim Dolphins dolphins. Summit Art Glass animal covered dishes are
still being sold online at the time I'm doing this book. Dealers of Summit Art
Glass still exist. These pieces are described as "New" Old Stock. They are
poured by Mosser Glass, Inc. It is not known if the original molds were sold to
new glass companies or are being commissioned by the original owner's
family. May be marked 'V' inside a ring. May be unmarked. 7 1/2" long.
