RECENT MATCH REPORTSFOR OUR OPEN AGE TEAMSWIGAN ST JUDES 16 WOOLSTON ROVERS 24(NCL 04/06/2022)Woolston Rovers made it back-to-back wins with victory at Wigan St Judes in a closely contestedNational Conference League Division Two encounter at Parsons Meadow, Wigan.Rovers opened the scoring in the fifteenth minute when second row Dan Fearnley made a finebreak and after a repeat set the ball reached Fearnley once again and he scored on the right.Stand off Theo Holt converted and then eight minutes later hooker Adam Files made a forty metrebreak before finding Holt in support so score on the right.St Judes replied on the half hour when a mistake by Rovers allowed centre Calum Palmer topick up a loose ball and go through a gap to score in the corner. Loose forward Danny Cassidyconverted from the touchline and then four minutes before the break a kick on the last tackle fromstand off Josh Yates was collected superbly by Cassidy to score on the left and make the half timescore 10-10.Twelve minutes into the second half St Judes had full back Dec Parkinson sin binned for a tripand from the resulting penalty Rovers made the extra man count as centre Olly Parr went over inthe left corner but four minutes later St Judes responded when Cassidy broke through some weaktackling to score on the left. He added the conversion to put his side ahead for the first time at16-14.Rovers refused to panic and they started to build up some momentum and that paid off when afine solo run by full back Morgan Williams saw him score in the right corner to put his side back infront and shortly afterwards St Judes had Yates yellow carded for dissent and with three minutesremaining Rovers made sure of the win when loose forward Ryan Brown found A Files who wentover for a try. Holt added the conversion to complete a 24-16 success for the Green & Gold men.The Man of the Match was awarded to Rovers hooker Adam Files. Woolston Rovers ‘A’ crashed out of this season’s NWML Trophy when they were defeated at

Salford City Roosters at the quarter final stage.

The Roosters, who are top of Division Two having lost only one league game all season, proved

why they are in a higher league as they clinically took their chances to record a comfortable win

against a Rovers side that never gave up and earned great credit for the way that they continued

to compete right until the end.

The home side built up a 32-8 interval lead and a further five converted tries in the second half,

with Rovers claiming one converted try of their own saw the Roosters run out 62-14 winners and

book their place in the semi final.

Try scorers for Rovers ‘A’ were Tom Atherton, Liam Lawton and Connor Pickett.

Best for Rovers were stand off Ben Roberts, second row Sam Vernon and prop forward Niall

Toher.

After the game Rovers ‘A’ coach Liam Lawton said, “That was a tough afternoon for us against a
