CROSFIELDS ‘A’ 32 WOOLSTON ROVERS ‘A’ 14
(NWML 26/05/2022)
Woolston Rovers ‘A’ recent good run of results came to an end when they went down to a ‘derby’
defeat at Crosfields ‘A’ in the NWML Division Three at Hood Lane Recreation Ground.
Soap opened the scoring after five minutes when slick handling created space out wide for centre
Joe Kohe-Love who scored on the right and then seven minutes later they ran the ball on the last
tackle and full back Taylor Boyne linked into the line to race over on the right.
Rovers responded shortly afterwards when the kick off was dropped by Soap and after some
good set up play scrum half Chris Forster gave a lovely short ball to second row Cameron Davies
who shot through a gap to score on the right but then just after the midway point of the half quick
hands on the last tackle from Crosfields saw second row Alex Clutterbuck find centre Tom Smith
who scored wide out on the left.
Crosfields moved further ahead when a high kick on the last tackle from Stanway was fumbled
by Rovers and Clutterbuck was on hand to pick up the loose ball and score on the right. Stanway
converted and then four minutes before the break Soap went down the short side on the last
tackle and Kohe-Love went over wide out on the left to give his side a commanding 22-4 half time
advantage.
Rovers came out a different team in the second half and they were rewarded ten minutes into it
when a short ball from Forster found Davies at speed and he used his strength to stretch out and
score at the right of the posts with three men on him. Loose forward Craig Lawton converted but
then four minutes later Soap replied when Boyne linked into the line to create space for him to
break through the defence to score on the left.
With eight minutes remaining Rovers gave themselves a glimmer of hope when a repeat set on
the Crosfields line paid off as stand off Dec Leonard found Davies sweeping round the back to
score his hat trick try on the left but then with the final play of the game a kick to the corner on
the last tackle by Stanway was collected by Smith who scored under the posts. Substitute Craig
Smalley added the conversion to complete a deserved 32-14 win for the home side.
Best for Rovers were second row Cameron Davies, substitute Ben Kenwright and prop forward
Rob Griffiths whilst Soap were best served by second row Mitch McJay, scrum half Brad Stanway
and centre Joe Kohe-Love.
