HEWORTH 38 WOOLSTON ROVERS 4
(NCL 14/05/2022)
Woolston Rovers came back from York empty handed when a clinical performance from Heworth
saw them claim a richly deserved victory in the NCL Division Two on Saturday afternoon.
Heworth opened the scoring in the fourth minute when winger Jay O’Gilvie scored and then seven
minutes later centre George Elliott went over for a try that he converted himself and almost immediately
winger Billy Sturdy added a third try to cement the home sides early supremacy.
Rovers managed to stem the tide a little with some gritty defending but then right on the stroke of
half time Heworth stand off Danny Allan scored a try. Elliott converted to give his side a commanding
20-0 interval lead.
Six minutes into the second half Heworth increased their advantage when substitute Ben Barnard
scored. Elliott converted and five minutes later prop forward Liam Richmond crashed over for a
try. Elliott added the conversion.
Rovers non-stop effort was rewarded on the hour when substitute Jake Toher marked his first
game for the club with a try but then with ten minutes remaining Heworth substitute Jack Earl went
over for a touchdown. Elliott added the conversion to make the final score 38-4 to Heworth.
Best for Rovers were prop forward Harry Files, stand off Theo Holt and substitute Nathan Maguire.
