latest findings on Vibrio vulnificus. From <strong>the</strong> findings of this workshop, FDA submitted<br />

an issue at <strong>the</strong> 1994 ISSC conference requesting <strong>the</strong> conference adopt harvest controls<br />

which would restrict <strong>the</strong> harvest of oysters from <strong>the</strong> Gulf of Mexico during <strong>the</strong> months<br />

April-October if <strong>the</strong> oysters were for sale as raw oysters (ISSC issue 94257,1995). This<br />

issue was not adopted by <strong>the</strong> ISSC, however it was referred to a committee in order that<br />

manual language for adoption be drafted, and alternatives to this option be identified<br />

(Thompson, 1994). The Consumer Protection Committee met twice during 1994 to work
