PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Develop an innovative public outreach program which explains<br />

<strong>the</strong> public health risks associated with <strong>the</strong> consumption of raw oysters and VIBRIO VULNIFICUS<br />

and how to control or minimize those risks. Certain activities should be targeted to potential<br />

high risk individuals.<br />

The Gulf of Mexico Program is a “must” program. The federal and state agencies,<br />

industry and concerned citizens must work toge<strong>the</strong>r to reach <strong>the</strong> lofty goal of<br />

protecting, restoring, and enhancing <strong>the</strong> coastal and marine waters of <strong>the</strong> Gulf of<br />

Mexico and its coastal natural habitats, to sustain living resources, to protect human<br />

health and <strong>the</strong> food supply, and to ensure <strong>the</strong> safe recreational usage of its waters and<br />

beaches. We must have total confidence in its seafood and we must accomplish this<br />

with efficiency and enthusiasm.
