PROJECT CODE: 95/PH/A29/291
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Evaluate composting toilets, incineration toilets, and aerobic
systems under intermittent use conditions. The objective of this project is to evaluate the
treatment efficiency of representative types of cornposting toilets and aerobic sewage
treatment devices under intermittent use conditions that would be applicable to the Gulf Coast
climatic conditions. The tests should be conducted in order to meet the specifications of the
National Sanitation Foundation (NSF Standard 40) if possible, since this is a requirement for
approval of alternative on-site sewage treatment devices in some Gulf Coast states. If standard
conditions for these evaluations do not exist, the conditions used should be determined in
conjunction with the Public Health Issue Committee and included in the final report
Type: Independent
