Woman; Elly Bulk<strong>in</strong> and Joan Lark<strong>in</strong>, for careful edit<strong>in</strong>g and<br />

car<strong>in</strong>g publication of “Beloved Women: <strong>The</strong> Lesbian <strong>in</strong><br />

<strong>American</strong> <strong>Indian</strong> Cultures.” I owe a debt to <strong>the</strong>se women, and to<br />

o<strong>the</strong>rs, such as Henrietta Whiteman, L<strong>in</strong>da Hogan, Joy Harjo,<br />

Wendy Rose, Blanche Cook, Adrienne Rich, Michelle Cliff,<br />
