And <strong>the</strong> circuits are evident <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir connections <strong>in</strong> her poem<br />

“Moonlight”:<br />

I know when <strong>the</strong> sun is <strong>in</strong> Ch<strong>in</strong>a<br />

because <strong>the</strong> night sh<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g o<strong>the</strong>r-light<br />

crawls <strong>in</strong>to my bed. She is moon.<br />

Her eyes slit and yellow she is <strong>the</strong> last<br />

spherical power to unify divergent events and conflict<strong>in</strong>g views.<br />

Like all <strong>the</strong> <strong>American</strong> <strong>Indian</strong> women writ<strong>in</strong>g poetry and fiction,<br />

Hogan is conscious of <strong>the</strong> real nature of spirit presence <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

world and so <strong>in</strong>cludes it as a basic assumption about reality <strong>in</strong><br />
