MARKUS HERINGER INDUSTRY VIEWS
▲ The iNet X System is one of Truma’s most recent innovations – Markus says it will help shape the future of caravanning.
“Truma’s objective is to make camping safer and more comfortable
with continuous innovations.”
MARKUS HERINGER – MANAGING DIRECTOR COMMERCIAL AT TRUMA GERÄTETECHNIK GMBH & CO. KG
are sustainable and durable.
Within the scope of our
own certified energy and
environmental management
system, we have set a goal
of significantly reducing our
emissions by 2026 as well as
producing a large proportion of
our own energy requirements
locally in a climate-friendly
manner by means of
photovoltaics, among other
sources.
How have things fared at Truma
over the past two years? What
challenges did you face during
the pandemic and how did you
overcome them?
The pandemic and its impact
caused us to reconsider how
both our work and home
lives operate. This was of
course tricky to begin with.
Nevertheless, new ideas provide
new momentum and new
impetus. Due to restrictions
placed on package tourism,
lots of people decided to
give camping a go and the
industry flourished. Over
the past two years, we have
witnessed plenty of changes
internally, predominantly in
terms of digitalisation and
internationalisation.
What are the greatest
opportunities for the camping
and recreational vehicle market
right now?
I believe the greatest
opportunity and at the same
time the greatest challenge is
in the technological change we
are currently undergoing, which
the sector is currently involved
in and will continue to focus
on for years to come. Indeed,
recreational vehicles of the
future will be fully connected,
for instance. This development
to create a smart RV and
new technologies naturally
means that things will need
to change. On the other hand,
they provide a starting point
for further innovative products
and solutions – in particular the
increasing trend of individual
trips and the associated growth
of the market.
Do you think that the current
boom in the camping industry
will continue? How can we as an
industry ensure that it continues?
In future, the world will
become even more digital
and fast-moving. With this
in mind, people will long for
independence, freedom, the
natural world and individual
breaks more than ever.
Considerably fewer long-haul
journeys will take place due
to the climate crisis. This
