IF YOU WANT
SOMETHING DONE
RIGHT…
You know the rest: do it yourself.
That is precisely the mentality
that Germany brand Hymer
has taken by becoming the first
motorhome manufacturer to
start mass-producing its very
own chassis after opening a
new production facility in Bad
Waldsee. The company has
been working on construction
of its so-called Super Light
Chassis (SLC) production hall
for around two years, and it
claims to be the first bodywork
manufacturer to start massproducing
its very own chassis.
It also means that Hymer’s
centralised production will
handle almost every crucial part
of the value creation chain, as
well as allowing it to respond
faster and more flexibly to the
current market situation and
future changes.
Christian Bauer, president
of Hymer GmbH & Co. KG.,
said: “Hymer has been known
as a pioneer in the motorhome
and caravanning industry for
more than 60 years. By opening
the SLC hall, we’re proud that
we’ll become the first bodywork
manufacturer to start actively
producing its own chassis, which
will enable us to take a truly
▲ The new chassis manufacturing facility opens at Hymer.
pioneering step forwards.”
Hymer also says that in
the process of developing this
facility it worked on a number
of automated solutions that will
provide better safety for staff
members. It also offers better
ergonomics, quality control
and more precision when
manufacturing motorhomes.
The facility is expected to be
fully operational by June 2022,
and Hymer will initially use
it to produce the SLC chassis
with five different wheelbases –
starting with the short versions
from 3.90 metres through to
the tandem axle model for the
B-Class MasterLine I 890.
FCA Bank, a leading provider
of mobility financial services,
has agreed a pan-European
partnership with one of the
continent’s biggest motorhome
manufacturers Carthago. The
agreement will see FCA Bank
provide financial services to
Carthago’s network of more
than 250 dealers as well as to
end users, and will cover both
Carthago products and also
products of its Malibu brand.
Through this partnership
with Carthago, and the recent
arrangements with two other
prestigious manufacturers,
Knaus Tabbert and Concorde,
FCA Bank will cover around 40
per cent of the total European
motorhome market.
One of the UK’s best-known
tent manufacturers Terra Nova
has taken the decision to become
employee owned. The company,
which also encompasses the
Wild Country and Extremities
brands, has been run by husband
and wife team Andy Utting and
Carolyn Budding for the past
22 years. The couple have now
transferred their ownership to
an employee ownership trust
