What does it mean to be an Eagle?<br />

SBRSD students show their pride<br />

in their school and communities by<br />

putting their best foot forward in all that they<br />

do. <strong>Our</strong> students’ accomplishments speak for<br />

themselves. This year, our elementary readers<br />

accrued 14,000 Read-A-Thon minutes, our athletes<br />

earned over eighteen special awards, our theatre<br />

department successfully produced three plays, we<br />

had twenty good news calls of the year, our music<br />

department performed in three parades and nine<br />

concerts, fifteen of our students led successful<br />

internships, and the senior class gained acceptance<br />

at over 50 universities including Smith College,<br />

Princeton University, Berkshire Community College,<br />

and University of Massachusetts, Amherst.<br />

We couldn’t be prouder of our SBRSD <strong>Eagles</strong>!<br />

students, staff, and<br />

community have all worked really hard to<br />

make the 2021-2022 school year productive,<br />

rewarding, and memorable.<br />

This, our final 2021-2022 issue of <strong>Educating</strong><br />

<strong>Our</strong> <strong>Eagles</strong>, offers a “look back” on the school<br />

year – highlighting achievements, academic<br />

progress, and all of the unique and memorable<br />

aspects of education at SBRSD.<br />

EDUCATING OUR EAGLES<br />

Oona is a Romney ewe lamb that<br />

was born at May Flower Farm,<br />

owned and operated by Peter and<br />

Ellen Maggio in Egremont. Mt. Everett’s<br />

Animal Science class has been working<br />

closely with the Maggios this year.<br />

Oona was orphaned by her mom, who<br />

twinned, and was born weighing 5 lbs.<br />

Students in class have taken her on as a<br />

class project and she is slowly integrating<br />

into our barn with the rest of the animals.<br />

Mt. Everett students have been taking<br />

elementary students out to the barn to<br />

teach them all about our resident sheep and<br />

how they are dual purpose breed raised for<br />

fiber and food.<br />

have had the privilege of being the faculty advisor of The New Day<br />

Club in 2021-2022. We are a new club who have organized to help<br />

our newest immigrant students and have held fun events and taken<br />

some memorable field trips. The school community has been a great<br />

support through fundraising and we applied for and were awarded an<br />

Eagle Fund grant to take our students to Boston this spring. It has been<br />

wonderful to watch students want to help out and welcome students<br />

donated their time and resources to deliver<br />

over 825 boxes of food, provide beautiful and<br />

thoughtful gifts for 138 children and washed over<br />

35 loads of laundry in this 2021-22 school year... all<br />

in their free time... in addition to all they do! It truly<br />

Each year (except for the last two), a<br />

team of SBRSD <strong>Eagles</strong> attend the<br />

Special Olympics in May! This year,<br />

seven student athletes participated in<br />

numerous events, including the 100m dash, 50m<br />

run/walk, softball throw, and long jump, all with<br />

the support and enthusiastic encouragement<br />

from faculty, staff, family, and friends.<br />

Everyone had a great time, celebrated our<br />

achievements, and enjoyed each other’s<br />

company with a delicious lunch! We are so<br />

appreciative of all the support!<br />

Student Council. I feel like they really<br />

tried to bring acts of kindness to our<br />

school this year. After the Great Kindness<br />

Challenge, we became a certified School of<br />

Kindness.<br />

This is the first year for the “Mt. Everett<br />

Student Council Award of Goodness”, a<br />

student-driven award honoring a senior and<br />

voted by peers and staff. Moving forward, we’ll<br />

be looking at grants and/or sponsors so we can<br />

continue to foster goodness in our community.”<br />

ATHLETICS<br />

Mount Everett Athetics program had another successful year. <strong>Our</strong><br />

students benefit from the inclusive nature of our program, learning<br />

essential skills that will stay with them for life. <strong>Our</strong> student athletes<br />

practice teamwork, compassion, resourcefulness, loyalty, dedication,<br />

and ambition.<br />

<strong>Our</strong> faculty and staff have accomplished a lot this 2021-2022 school<br />

year. Going above and beyond is in their nature. Here is a small<br />

James Siket completed a Project Lead The<br />

Way Design and Modeling Course where he<br />

gained valuable resources to expand students'<br />

3D building skills.<br />

District Pre-Kindergarten teachers<br />

worked together as a team on professional<br />

development. They took a very informative<br />

graduate course offered through the<br />

Asperger/Autism Network called, Early<br />

Identification and Supports for Children with<br />

Autism. They also took additional classes<br />

designed for early childhood educators<br />

that focused on building on the cultural<br />

and background knowledge of EL’s in the<br />

classroom, understanding and addressing<br />

young children’s challenging behaviors, and<br />

promoting equity in early childhood settings.<br />

Stephanie Graham received a Fund For<br />

Teachers Innovation Circles grant which she<br />

will use to further her knowledge regarding<br />

Indigenous Education and continue to<br />

build collaborations with members of the<br />

Stockbridge Munsee Community. After<br />

the success of the Mohican Journey exhibit<br />

last year, over 20 school leaders and tribal<br />

members have been meeting together<br />

to create unified, sustainable, culturally<br />

responsive curriculum and resources to be<br />

shared county-wide, in partnership with<br />

Housatonic Heritage.<br />

Courtney English will be taking an<br />

instrumental repair course called Band<br />

Instrument Maintenance for Wind Educators<br />

this summer. She is excited to learn how to<br />

handle the many issues that arise each year<br />

with students' instruments.<br />

Asha VonRuden is pursuing a Doctor<br />

of Education (Ed.D.) in Leadership in<br />

Schooling: STEM Education Program at<br />

UMass Lowell.<br />

Superintendent Beth Regulbuto received her<br />

Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational<br />

Leadership from the University of the<br />

Cumberlands on April 30, 2022<br />

Kelly MacDonald took three online graduate<br />

courses this school year -<br />

Fostering Mathematical Mindsets,<br />

Project Based Learning for Early Learners,<br />

and Read Out! Building Students’ Literacy and<br />

Love of Reading Through Read Alouds.<br />

Roberta Sarnacki helped to facilitate a webbased<br />

BCC college class with the majority of<br />

students earning an “A”. The students enrolled<br />

had not necessarily been on a college-pathway<br />

but were excited to get a taste of what collegelevel<br />

courses would be like.<br />

Victoria Aldam is finishing the last term of<br />

her masters of English course. She gets to<br />

write a capstone on an element of choice<br />

and is most excited about the Shakespeare<br />

course where she analyzes his plays through<br />

a feminist and Marxist lens and connects<br />

the themes of Shakespeare’s England to<br />

current times! She currently have a 4.0 in the<br />

program!<br />

Kevin Wolgemuth will be attending an<br />

intensive two-week institute at the Plimoth<br />

Patuxet Museum in Plymouth, Massachusetts.<br />

The institute, Ancient Stories, New Neighbors,<br />

is supported by the National Endowment for<br />

the Humanities. Among fifteen participants<br />

from across the United States, Wolgemuth will<br />

"join expert faculty from tribal communities,<br />

colleges and universities across the country" to<br />

study "decolonizing historical narratives and<br />

recentering Indigenous voices by employing<br />

archaeology, landscape, material culture, oral<br />

history, and written documents. The institute<br />

will reveal how an Indigenous-colonial regional<br />

landscape was built and evolved through<br />

collaboration and conflict in the 1600s.<br />

Jane Schur and Stephanie Graham will be<br />

attending the Living on the Edge of Empire:<br />

Alliance, Conflict and Captivity in Colonial<br />

New England - a National Endowment for the<br />

Humanities Landmarks of American History<br />

and Culture-funded workshop for school<br />

teachers in Deerfield, Massachusetts.<br />

Kari Giordano is enrolled in graduate level<br />

work studying photography at Falmouth<br />

University in Cornwall, England.<br />

Parker Snyder recently graduated with a<br />

Master of Education from MCLA<br />

Michaud was awarded an Eagle Fung<br />

grant for $750 in FFA supplies. FFA will<br />

be using the money to replace work<br />

boots, coveralls, and barn jackets.<br />

The Mt. Everett Student Council Award<br />

of Goodness was awarded to Micah<br />

Ketchen. This award was voted on by<br />

students and staff at Mount Everett and<br />

given to a senior who exhibits kindness<br />

and strength of character.<br />

Leslye Bautista-Cruz, with assistance<br />

from Ms. Martin was awarded an<br />

Eagle Fund Grant to aid in the newly<br />

formed New Day Club.<br />
