NOELLE BENNETT 46 June 2022 NZPhotographer
I have been doing photography for a little under ten years, getting my first camera in late 2012. Since then, I have had an immense amount of fun, as well as experiencing a fair degree of frustration as I have gradually started to get to grips with a variety of photographic genres. My favourite genre? Well, in all honesty, I think I would have to say my favourite is whatever genre I am working with at the time. www.noellebennettphotography.com A LIGHT IN THE DARKNESS My photographic journey has given me some very special experiences in lots of different ways, and many have happened as a result of posing the ‘What if...?’ question to myself. It’s at times like these that I find myself thinking of something Vincent Munier said, which was, «When you reveal everything, you kill imagination. I live in a world of imagination and that is where I want to stay». And that is how it was with this series. I had rediscovered the joy of photographing flowers after far too long ignoring them in favour of so many other apparently more exciting subjects and techniques. The sun was low in the sky, casting some parts of the flowers into sharp relief whilst almost totally obscuring other areas of them and, in doing so, adding just a hint of mystery. The details and shapes that were visible, and in many cases accentuated by this selective lighting, were simply stunning. And what about the parts that were not revealed? Well, maybe I’ll just leave those to your imagination! NZPhotographer June 2022 47
