Weather Hampers First 2011 Space Coast Drive Escape By Andre Martineau On Tuesday, January 25, Space Coast Region kicked-off the first Drive & Dine for the year. Unfortunately, the weather caused fourteen members (seven cars) to cancel, but thirteen die-hards attended. Once again, Porsche camaraderie prevailed at Captain Hiram’s in Sebastian. Members shared some wonderful track attendance stories, while others enjoyed the good food and service. We all had a great time until the forecasted weather signaled it was time to go. Although the initial squall line was severe, it was short lived and everyone made it safely home. As a result of many conversations with members, the original concept of Drive & Dine will change. Rather than week nights, these events will now be held during weekend daylight hours. This will allow us to enjoy some of Florida’s best sight-seeing while driving to select restaurants for either brunch or lunch. Idle Time Article and Photos by Ken Marshall What do you do during winter’s Autocross (AX) and Driver Education (DE) downtime period? Modify your Porsche, of course! Mike Steele preparing to install the roll bar Having been bitten by the PCA sponsored DE and AX bug, I thought it would be a good time to get ready for the new season. With safety in mind, I chose a GMG RSR roll bar. Installation is a bit of a job and not something that I would have attempted on my own. I also purchased GMG’s new one piece, forged aluminum wheels in order to have a set of rubber for dedicated track use. However, I love the looks of the new wheels so much that I’ll be using them for the street in conjunction with Michelin PS2s. The OEM wheels with Michelin Cup tires will see track and AX duty. After searching for a place to get the roll bar installed, I turned to my friends at Porsche of Melbourne’s service Anybody seen my wheels? volume 5, Issue 1 Ready for next season’s action department. I can’t say enough about the professional installation job performed by POM technicians Mike Steele and Jesse Lim. The bar looks like it was factory installed, and our PCA discount is an added bonus. Not only does the bar provide a significant safety factor, I’ve been assured that the guards red finish will be certain to improve my times. We’ll see. I was more than pleased at the car’s transformation when I picked it up at the end of the day. It’s nice to have quality local support. Thanks Porsche of Melbourne. I have a feeling I’ll be back. 2
