Visitors to the annual Jefferson Township
High School Ecofest on Wednesday, May
4, experienced a variety of informational stations
and student-made organic and sustainable
products.
Hosted by the Morris County Vocational School
District’s Academy for Environmental Science, the
event coincided with New Jersey’s ban on plastic
bags. Attendees received free reusable bags.
Academy students displayed and shared research
products that yielded easy-to-use alternatives to
environmentally harmful products. Ideas ranged
from combating household ant infestations with
essential oils to selling homemade organic body
soap to making homemade natural cleaning
products to a solution for chemical-laden
sunscreen.
“There are a lot of diverse presentations this
year,” said retiring lead academy teacher, Nancy
FitzGerald. “The students did an outstanding job
with their research.”
