Figure 2.28. Lactational change. A totally dissociated population of
naked nuclei of lobular cells admixed with mixed inflammatory cells
is present. The presence of prominent nucleoli is unusual for lobular
carcinoma. The observer should have a much higher threshold for
interpreting atypia or cancer when dealing with a fine-needle aspirate
from a young pregnant or lactating patient. (Smear, Papanicolaou.)
