• Once again, a careful review of clinical history and the

pathology slides of the original primary tumor may help

elucidate this process.

• The judicial use of a panel of immunohistochemistry stains

and ancillary studies such as electron microscopy and flow

cytometry may also be helpful.

• Useful immunostains include hormonal receptors such as

estrogen and progesterone and GCFDP-15; positive results

from such stains generally are helpful to classify the lesion

as a primary breast tumor.

• An immunochemical panel that repeats the one performed

on the primary tumor can also identify a metastatic lesion

if the panel results are comparable.
