1.5.2 West Virginia State Fire Marshal<br />
The West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office, overseen by the State Fire Commission, has four divisions<br />
providing fire protection <strong>and</strong> regulatory services: regulation <strong>and</strong> licensing, public education, fire<br />
investigation, <strong>and</strong> regional response. The Fire Marshal enforces the rules of the State Fire Commission<br />
throughout West Virginia. Currently, the Fire Marshal’s Office employs 12 code inspectors <strong>and</strong> 11 fire<br />
investigators.<br />
1.5.3 Raleigh County Emergency Services<br />
An executive group is responsible for emergency services management in Raleigh County, West Virginia.<br />
Group membership includes county commissioners; the district attorney; mayors of municipalities; the<br />
county sheriff; the Office of Emergency Services (OES); <strong>and</strong> the county public information officer.<br />
Raleigh County emergency services encompass mutual aid management among municipal fire<br />
departments (career <strong>and</strong> volunteer); police; emergency medical transport services; <strong>and</strong> community-based<br />
support agencies. Services are coordinated under a unified comm<strong>and</strong> system at the Emergency<br />
Operations Center (EOC) located in Beckley.<br />
Local municipalities are responsible primarily for emergency response activities within their areas.<br />
County resources are available from the OES <strong>and</strong> coordinated through the EOC when emergencies exceed<br />
local response capabilities. The OES develops <strong>and</strong> maintains the Raleigh County Emergency Plan <strong>and</strong><br />
manages the county’s 911 emergency call center.<br />
1.5.4 Ghent Volunteer Fire Department<br />
The Ghent Volunteer Fire Department was incorporated in 1973 <strong>and</strong> has 28 members providing fire<br />
fighting, life protection, <strong>and</strong> ambulance service to residents in the Ghent area. Salaried Emergency<br />
