1.0 Introduction<br />
1.1 Summary<br />
At 10:53 am on January 30, 2007, a propane explosion leveled the Flat Top <strong>Little</strong> <strong>General</strong> <strong>Store</strong> (<strong>Little</strong><br />
<strong>General</strong>) in Ghent, Raleigh County, West Virginia (Figure 1). The explosion killed four <strong>and</strong> injured six.<br />
The dead included two emergency responders (a fire department captain <strong>and</strong> an emergency medical<br />
technician, both from the Ghent Volunteer Fire Department) <strong>and</strong> two Appalachian Heating propane<br />
service technicians. The injured included the four <strong>Little</strong> <strong>General</strong> employees who remained inside the<br />
store, <strong>and</strong> two other Ghent Volunteer Fire Department emergency responders.<br />
