• An FRDC project on the investigation of<br />

Chlamydiales-like organisms in pearl oysters<br />

will be finalised.<br />

• An FRDC-funded project to investigate viral<br />

inclusions in Australian prawns will be started.<br />

• Fresh water bodies and species for<br />

rehabilitation, restocking and feral eradication<br />

will be prioritised, based upon data from our<br />

2010 survey.<br />

• Restocking of native fish will commence in<br />

priority water bodies.<br />

• The community education display at the<br />

Pemberton Freshwater Research Centre will be<br />

completed and the hatchery re-opened to tours<br />

by the general public.<br />

Stock Assessment and Data Analysis<br />

• Assist development and integration of the<br />

Department’s new entitlement management<br />

system to ensure integrity of historical and<br />

future time series of catch and effort data for<br />

the state’s commercial fisheries.<br />

• Data collection for the survey of state-wide<br />

boat-based fishing will conclude, and detailed<br />

analyses will begin.<br />

• Build capacity in stock assessment to<br />

improve ability to meet the needs of fisheries<br />

management.<br />

Finfish<br />

• An NRM-funded project to determine<br />

connectivity and status of key indicator<br />

species in the nearshore waters of the West<br />

Coast Bioregion will be finalised.<br />

• Cooperative FRDC-funded projects will be<br />

completed that examine the relative efficiency<br />

of gear and resource availability in the tropical<br />

demersal fisheries and the stock structure<br />

of blue and king threadfin species across<br />

northern Australia.<br />

• Reports will be finalised and released on<br />

the stock status of the Gascoyne demersal<br />

scalefish resource.<br />

• An NRM-funded project on the monitoring of<br />

juvenile dhufish, including identifying options for<br />

future monitoring programs will be finalised.<br />

• Northern and southern finfish monitoring<br />

and assessment plans will be finalised<br />

and implemented to support departmental<br />

planning processes.<br />

• The commencement of an FRDC-funded project<br />

led by researchers at the CSIRO and aimed at<br />

collecting and identifying larval dhufish in the<br />

West Coast Bioregion will be supported.<br />

• An FRDC-funded project to examine the<br />

movements and linkages of key shark species<br />

among the bioregions will begin.
