• An overseas trade mission to Korea and China<br />

was managed for the Department’s Chief<br />

Executive Officer and six delegates.<br />

• The WA Fish eNews email newsletter was<br />

produced and published every week for the<br />

Western Australian fishing industry.<br />

• Over 4,000 school students and more than<br />

10,000 members of the general public visited<br />

the Naturaliste Marine Discovery Centre.<br />

• There was continued collaboration with<br />

government and non-government agencies<br />

that enhance the delivery of fisheries and<br />

sustainable natural resource management<br />

education programs across the State.<br />

Northern Region<br />

• Mobile patrols of recreational fishing activity<br />

were successfully implemented at Broome and<br />

Kununurra.<br />

• A new Community Education Officer was<br />

appointed to the Northern Bioregion.<br />

• A recreational compliance and education<br />

campaign was carried out at Port Hedland.<br />

• A Western Australian Work Safety Award was<br />

won for the safety upgrades to the Broome<br />

Tropical Aquaculture Park.<br />

Gascoyne Region<br />

• An educational tour of the Gascoyne Region<br />

was carried out, which included schools<br />

at Denham, Useless Loop, Carnarvon and<br />

Exmouth and a number of community events.<br />

• A new rigid inflatable boat, FD44 was delivered<br />

to the Carnarvon District Office, increasing the<br />

ability to carry out compliance services across<br />

both commercial and recreational fisheries.<br />

• A new mobile recreational fisheries patrol<br />

successfully delivered compliance and<br />

educational services across the region from<br />

Onslow to Kalbarri.<br />

Mid-West Region<br />

• A significant increase was made in the number<br />

of education and compliance contacts with<br />

land-based recreational fishers, including<br />

in the Jurien Bay Marine Park, through the<br />

introduction of the mobile patrol service.<br />

• Targeted recreational demersal fishing<br />

compliance operations were carried out during<br />

the Easter and April school holiday period.<br />

• Public recreation infrastructure was installed<br />

at Turtle Bay (East Wallabi Island in the<br />

Houtman Abrolhos) in collaboration with the<br />

Northern Agricultural Catchment Council.<br />

• A new aquatic guide of the Houtman Abrolhos<br />

Islands was produced.
