Shark Bay Crab Fishery (Interim) Management Plan Amendment 2010. Management plan amendment to extend the expiry date of the interim plan until 31 August 2011. Management plan amendment relating to: • Introduce individual catch limits for each licence in the fishery based on the number of units held on the licence and consistent with the approved Total Allowable Commercial Catch (TACC) for each zone of the fishery. • Provide that the quantity of gear able to be used in the fishery and the catch limit should be fixed, based on the current unit entitlement on a licence (the number of units after temporary transfers to and from the licence) as at a specified date prior to the start of the season in each zone (Zone B, Zone C and Abrolhos Islands Area). • Provide the opportunity for industry to be able to soak a number of pots at the Abrolhos Islands before the start of the season which is representative of the quantity of gear they are able to fish once the season opens. • Remove the restriction on Zone A licence holders operating in inshore waters which are less than 20 fathoms in depth (the “20 fathom line”). 172 • Align the season start date for Zones B and C at 15 November. • Extend the season in all zones by two months to 31 August. • Adjust the capacity of the fishery such that the unit value in all zones is 0.5 pots per unit all season. • Prohibit fishing on Saturdays and Sundays, but permits fishing on Fridays where this is currently prohibited. • Include penalties and a defence in respect to exceeding catch limits.
