The Department is committed to ensuring<br />

all events are planned using the Accessible<br />

Events Checklist, which is available on the<br />

Department’s Intranet.<br />

The Department has developed standard<br />

wording for all information bulletins and event<br />

invitations, to enable attendees to indicate the<br />

nature of any access requirements they have.<br />

The Department has undergone ongoing audits<br />

to identify any access barriers to its premises.<br />

The new redevelopment of the Department’<br />

of Fisheries main website will ensure<br />

compliance with the WA Government’s<br />

Website Governance Framework including its<br />

accessibility and recordkeeping requirements<br />

(including W3C, WCAG, and the Records<br />

Keeping Act). The Department continues to be<br />

committed to improving community awareness<br />

of departmental information by making it<br />

available in alternative forms.<br />

The Department is committed to improving<br />

staff awareness of disability and access<br />

issues with the aim of providing improved<br />

service delivery.<br />

The Department is committed to ensuring that<br />

current complaints, policies and procedures<br />

are accessible to people with disabilities.<br />

The Department monitors the progress of<br />

its Disability Access and Inclusion Plan.<br />

The Department will continue to progress<br />

improvements in its delivery of services and,<br />

in particular, to the special needs of those with<br />

a disability.<br />

The Department also supports the<br />

fishing workshops for the disabled operated<br />

by the Fishers with Disabilities Association<br />

Incorporated and provides a grant to assist<br />

the association meet its administration and<br />

insurance costs.<br />

In addition to initiating the fishing<br />

workshops program for Fishers with Disabilities<br />

several years ago through its volunteer<br />

program, the Department of Fisheries<br />

contributes several members of staff to the<br />

board of the association. The Department<br />

allows these board members to attend board<br />

meetings and conduct association-related<br />

business during working hours while employed
