Lee K is a South Korean
artist who majorly focuses
on painting portraits. He
often takes over models
who are familiar to the
public to mold them as he pleases.
The artist makes his compositions
appear through a series of strokes
and wavy lines that finally compose
curves of the face.
His gesture is frenetic, both rapid
and precise, and evokes engraving
techniques. The shades of grey,
sometimes associated with colorful
touches, transcribe the face’s
emotions. Behind this approach,
Lee creates his thinking. In a subtle
composition manner, the Korean
artist creates communication
between him and the viewer. He
invites the viewer to look into the
eyes of the models. Eyes are the
foundation of his production.
According to him, language is
an essential part of communication
but can also generate
miscommunications. That is because
language is a tool that is subject to
personal interpretations. This lack of
understanding steers Lee to favor
communication through the eyes, by
depriving his models of their mouth.
In a subtle composition
manner, the Korean artist
creates communication
between him and the
viewer. He invites the
viewer to look into the
eyes of the models. Eyes
are the foundation of
his production.
Thus, muteness becomes a common
characteristic of many of these
portraits.
HongLee Curator is an international
art agency founded by him that
organizes Focus Art Fair worldwide,
among many other projects. It
was established in 2017 and has
