Euthanasia
Called Mercy Killing

The Bible offers an account of the dignity of the human person
and of the human existence in the light of God’s enduring providence
and love for all humanity. Life is presented as a treasured
divine blessing, a supreme earthly good. 1 In the Bible, people of
God were repeatedly reminded that God is the author of all subsequent
human life; he is the giver of life to women and men,
who are called to reflect God’s creative and provident goodness.
Human life, God’s precious gift, is most vulnerable when it comes
into the world and when it leaves the realm of time to embark
upon eternity. When it comes into the world, it comes from the
hand of God himself. Thus, the life of every individual from its
very beginning is the part of God’s loving plan for human existence.
Indeed, we come to know through various Biblical passages
that a long life is the reward promised to those who lead a good
life.
Human life inescapably, bodily in nature is precious in itself
and to God, at every moment of its existence, even and especially
when it suffers, when it draws near to death. “You shall not kill”
(Exo. 20:13) is a specific command pronounced by God to protect
the dignity and sanctity of human life; indeed, the whole of
God’s law, God’s wise and living plan for human existence fully
protects human life. This law finds its fulfillment in Jesus, who
shows us the authentic meaning of human life, and the gospel of
life is ultimately fulfilled on the cross of Calvary.
In recent days, the term mercy killing is flourished extensively
throughout the world though many countries do not accept the
method to end life. Mercy killing is known as euthanasia which
generally refers to the practice of intentionally ending a life in
