Snake-Eyes Screws (2-Hole Drive)
This Type is known under
various names, Snake-Eyes,
2-hole, twin hole screws.
screw drive uses two round
holes (sometimes two slots),
the same driver bits work
in both types opposite each
other and is designed to prevent tampering. The driving
tool is called a “spanner driver” or “spanner screwdriver
in the US, and a “pin spanner” in the UK. It may
be seen in elevators and restrooms in the United
States. The US military’s M17 and M18 service pistols
(variants of the SIG Sauer P320) use spanner screws to
dissuade disassembly of the handgun beyond normal
field maintenance.
Avsafe Security Screws (Oval Pan Drive)

(Avsafe screws) have a slightly
out of round shaped head
with beveled sides to prevent
removal with conventional
tools. An installed Avsafe
screw looks like a rivet or nail
head. it appears decorative,
recessing it in counterbore
makes this one extremely difficult to tamper with.
Tricone Security Bolts (Pig Nose Drive)
The Tricone security bolts
are furnished with three
equally spaced blind holes,
formed into the head, with
a cone projection protruding
from each of the holes. The
patented design makes
removal of the fastener extremely difficult. A special tool
is required to fasten and remove the screw. They are
individually coded and registered against each customer
for be fully traceable, to ensure the integrity of the drive
is not compromised. For this reason, Tricone screws and
tools are only available to end users; resale is prohibited.
Recessing the head make the screw even more secure.
Ultra-Lok (Custom Designed)
Ultra-lok and Ultra-lok II
are custom-designed drives,
necessitating matching drivers
which are only available
directly from the manufacturer
and only supplied to registered
owners, similar to keyed locks.
The Ultra-Lok, and Ultra-Lok II are some of these designs
that use custom keyed drivers, which tend to be confined
to industrial and institutional uses that are unavailable to
the average amateur.
Key-Rex Drive (Custom Designed)
Key-Rex screws are another
tamperproof design, which
is used on items such as
ballot boxes and bank vaults.
The unique keyway shape is
created using an encryption
process that builds the profile
shape out of millions of
variables and defines an unequaled keyway shape.
Customers pay for a one-time key code tool and licensing
agreement. The head is specially designed oval head,
preventing it from being loosened by plyers, nevertheless
countersinking them will further improve its resistance to
tampering.
Torq-Set (Cruciform Drive)
Torq-set is a cruciform
screw drive The Torq-set head
is similar in appearance to a
Phillips drive in that it has a
cross with 4 arms. In Torq-set
however, the lines are offset
from each other, so they do
not align to form intersecting slots across the top of the
head. Because of this, a regular Phillips or flat-blade
screwdriver will not fit the head. It is used in military
and aerospace applications. Tampering is still possible
under certain circumstances. Tri-Wing screws are similar
to Torq-set, they are recommended for low security risk
applications.
