Helping OlderPeople New Forest(HOPe) Information &Advice serviceOur HOPe Information and Advice teamwelcomes the opportunity to help make thelives of older people across the New Foresteasier, safer and more fulfilling. You don’tneed to come to us: we will happily come toyou. And as a registered charity, our time isalways completely free of charge.We see many older clients who arechallenged by the digital age we live in. Thosewho have lived, and managed, perfectly well(until now) without the need for a computerfind it increasingly difficult to manage theirfinancial affairs (e.g. insurance, utilities andeven banking) when the ability to speak to areal person is obstructed by long waitingtimes on customer service helplines and popup chat boxes on websites with ‘bots’ ratherthan real-life agents on the other end. This isjust one way in which we help our clients,either in their own homes or at our NewMilton office.Whatever your problem or enquiry, we willtry our best to help (from form filling, helpingyou to dispute wrongful claims to seekingsources of support in the home).Our New Milton office is open Monday, Weds,Thursday, Friday 10 – 2 pm. All abilities are welcome. Memberscome from all areas of the Forest includingRingwood, Bournemouth and Lymington. We arenow able to offer our full programme of events.At meetings we have a library loan scheme, salestable, raffle, sometimes a local trader andspeakers or a social sewing opportunity to displayprojects. And don’t forget to bring along if youwould like to, your completed item that you havesewn for our ‘Show and Tell’.We regularly raise money for local charities andare involved in making quilts for children andbabies in our local hospitals and for young peopleleaving the care system. During the last two yearswe have made over 500 reusable bags for ourlocal foodbank.We are a membership organisation, but we dohave some spaces this year.Our next meeting is on March 7 th which is ourAGM. On April 4th we look forward to welcomingJennie Rayment (from Just Hands-On TV) to give atalk entitled ‘Nipper and Tucker’ followed onTuesday 5 th April by an all-day workshop ‘FizzBang Wallop’. All talks and workshops are open tovisitors at a cost £5 and £30 respectively. Theprogramme of events is advertised on ourFacebook pageMembers of the New Milton Men’s Shed are celebrating the planning approval of theirpermanent shed at Fawcett’s Field. Formed three years ago, this local group is affiliated to theestablished U.K Men's Shed Association, and have been involved helping with communityprojects. They are currently working from a temporary shed supplied by New Milton Council fromwhich they have been able to create items to contribute to our projects and to sell in order toraise money for their new shed.Future fund raising events include The Lions Easter Extravaganza at New Milton's RecreationGround between 11 – 4pm on Saturday 16 th .
