BONDING TO THE EXTERNAL GROUNDING (EARTHING) ELECTRODE SYSTEM CHAPTER 4: EXTERNAL GROUNDING (EARTHING)<br />

WARNING<br />

To help prevent injury from molten metal or sparks <strong>and</strong> to reduce the risk of fire, follow<br />

the exothermic welding manufacturer's safety warnings <strong>and</strong> requirements.<br />

• Heavy clothing, work shoes or boots, gloves, <strong>and</strong> safety glasses shall be worn when per<strong>for</strong>ming<br />

exothermic welding,<br />

• Exothermic welding shall not be per<strong>for</strong>med unless another person capable of rendering first aid is<br />

present. A suitable fire extinguisher shall be close by with an attendant during the process.<br />

• Observe the following prerequi<strong>sites</strong> <strong>for</strong> exothermic welding:<br />

• Follow the manufacturer's recommendations.<br />

• Use the proper molds <strong>for</strong> the conductors being welded.<br />

• Use the proper weld material <strong>for</strong> the metals being welded.<br />

• Properly clean all metal parts prior to welding.<br />

• Properly dry all metal parts <strong>and</strong> molds prior to welding.<br />

The exothermic welding process is shown in Figure 4-28.<br />
