The Empire Builder, ® Whitefish, MT

Why wait for the DESTINATION
to start your VACATION?
The moment you come on board Amtrak ® the adventure
begins. From the comfy, reclining seats to larger-than-life
windows to the freedom to move around whenever your
heart desires, there is absolutely no better way to see
America than by train. So go ahead and choose from more
than 500 Amtrak destinations, including national parks
and big cities, and enjoy every minute of your vacation —
starting with the journey.
Reduce your CARBON FOOTPRINT
while TRAVELING GREEN.
You see, when you take the train, you can rest easy
knowing that you’re reducing emissions. Trains are more
energy efficient than planes or automobiles per passenger
mile of travel.* This means generations to come will have the
chance to fall in love with the same breathtaking scenery.
The Empire Builder ® near Glacier National Park, MT.
*Amtrak passenger efficiency based on data from the U.S. Department of Energy Transportation Yearbook — 2011.
Information on Amtrak’s environmental impacts and initiatives can be found at Amtrak.com/travelgreen.

Escorted Rail Journeys
BY AMTRAK VACATIONS ®
AMTRAK VACATIONS ® IS PLEASED TO OFFER OUR ESCORTED RAIL
JOURNEYS FOR 2012. Our Escorted Rail Journeys are designed to offer travelers an exciting
vacation while all the daily activities are handled by an experienced escort. Train travel is a
wonderful way to relax and view the country and a great ecological way to visit National Parks.
Arrangements are made for all transportation and transfers, hotel accommodations, guided
tours and activities, meals, baggage handling and more. Let Amtrak Vacations take care of all the
planning, so you can sit back and enjoy the journey.
Red Rock Amphitheater outside of Denver, CO
Amtrak Bedroom Accommodation
SMALL GROUP TOURS offer exceptional quality and an unsurpassed experience. Maximum
capacity on any one tour ranges from 22-28 travelers, therefore, allowing you to see more, do
more, be more comfortable and enjoy more. We utilize mini-coaches and not large motorcoaches
for all tours. Mini-coaches are easier and faster to get on and off, luggage comes off faster and
most importantly, the smaller sized vehicles can go to more places, more conveniently. There is no
better way to travel in National Parks than on mini-coaches.
SLEEPING ACCOMMODATIONS aboard the train are always included in your package,
even when traveling for just eight hours. This ensures privacy and added comfort to train travel.
All meals in the Dining car are included with Sleeping car accommodations.
MEALS are provided in some of the finest establishments in each destination keeping the
experience and value in mind. We try to utilize restaurants that offer flexibility so that entrees are
ordered from the full menu with NO dinner buffets. In many places, we dine where the locals dine
and that can be more enriching than a large restaurant in a “touristy” area.
Dining on Amtrak
OUR STAFF will take each individual’s needs into consideration as their primary responsibility.
Your escort will manage all travel arrangements including baggage handling and each day’s
activities to ensure your vacation runs smoothly. We hire local professional guides in each
destination to do all the touring narration.
THE HOTELS we choose balance luxury with value and location. In many National Parks, there
are no luxury accommodations, but we try to offer rooms with better views or lower floors for
travelers whom would struggle with stairs. We search for historical, upscale properties that in
many cases are an attraction themselves.
Andaluz Hotel, Albuquerque, NM
EXPERIENCE THE PARKS don’t just drive through them. If you love to take pictures and
want a more enriching experience, our escorted journeys will accomplish this effortlessly. For
example, while many operators drive into Yellowstone, spend one night or just drive through with
a stop at Old Faithful, we have three full days in the park. We go wildlife viewing, see all the falls
and major geyser basins, ride a stagecoach and best of all, we’ll do this inside a 13-passenger
vintage yellow bus. In Glacier, we see all sections of the park. In the Grand Canyon area, we will
take you to Lake Powell and Sedona plus travel aboard The Grand Canyon Railway to the South
Rim of the Canyon.
What happens inside is equally INCREDIBLE.
AMTRAK ACCOMMODATIONS. Seeing the country by train wouldn’t be nearly as enjoyable
if service and comfort were lacking. Truth is, our service is a big part of what makes riding the train so
memorable. Amtrak offers two types of train service: single-level and our bi-level Superliner ® service.
Onboard accommodations vary by route, and the following pages describe the differences.
SINGLE-LEVEL TRAINS. Amtrak operates single-level service on most short-distance routes
and some long-distance routes serving the Eastern U.S.
COACH. There’s not a bad seat in the house. That’s because all Coach seats are the same: large,
comfy, reclining, with foot and leg rests, fold-down tray tables, individual reading lights (available on
most trains) and overhead luggage racks. Go ahead and walk around — with windows throughout
the car, you won’t miss a thing.
DINING CAR. Enjoy the sights while getting a bite to eat. Just stroll down to the Dining car
where an attendant will greet you, show you to your table and recommend a wine to complement
your restaurant-quality meal. The oversized windows offer larger-than-life views and make this a
dining experience you’ll be sure to remember.
KITCHEN
TABLE SEATING
CAFÉ / LOUNGE. The most popular place to hang out and socialize is the Café / Lounge car.
Here, you can unwind, meet fellow riders or eat a meal with family or friends. Menus offer sandwiches,
