The safety of our staff and participants is of the utmost importance. Camp

activities will be modified and adjusted based on recommendations and

guidance from public health officials. The Summer Day Camp Family

Handbook will be made available on April 1, 2022 and will be

updated throughout the summer as we make any necessary changes to

follow the guidance and direction of the IDPH and CDC.

The Medical Form is only necessary if

your child has a medical condition.

Call for updated information regarding weather conditions for

sports, alternate camp locations, and the Family Aquatic Center.

Identification is required to pick up your camper

at the end of each day.

Required Swim Test

Campers are required to pass a basic swim test to be

able to swim with the Vernon Hills Park District. Visit

vhparkdistrict.org and go to Summer Day Camps, listed

under the Programs tab to view the requirements of the

swim test. Choose one date. No test is required for early

childhood camps or Counselor In Training.

Camp Refund Policy

Camp refund requests made prior to the camp in-person

registration deadline receive a full refund, less a $5

service charge per camp/per child. No camp refunds will

be issued after the camp in-person registration deadline.

All camp refund requests must be made in writing. Forms

are available online or at the Sullivan Community Center.

Refund requests will be reviewed on a case by case basis.

Lunch Option

On the two days per week that your child

goes to the Family Aquatic Center, Bobo’s

Restaurant will provide lunch, for an

additional fee, with four meal options: hot

dog, peanut butter sandwich, chicken nuggets

and hamburger. Each meal includes a drink

and a side (fries, chips or fruit cup). In the

event of inclement weather, Bobo’s will

deliver the meals to the campsites.

Registration Deadline: 3 pm on the Sunday

before each session begins.

Extended Care | 3-6 PM

Youth Day Camps visit the Family Aquatic Center twice per week, weather permitting.

Youth Day Camps

Trailblazers Camp

Campers at Trailblazers Camp spend their days dabbling in arts and

crafts, sports and games, water play, and special themed activities

at the Sullivan Community Center and neighborhood parks. Campers

participate in both indoor and outdoor activities designed to keep them

active and engaged. Campers will enjoy a weekly field trip.

The Great Outdoors

Join us at The Great Outdoors and enjoy a summer full of excitement!

Each day will be packed with a variety of games, team building activities,

scavenger hunts, water play and other exciting activities. Campers will

embark on a field trip once a week.

Peterson Park

Adventure Day Camp

Enjoy a summer full of adventure! Campers at Adventure Day Camp

spend their days exploring Century Park and its natural areas, ballfields,

and playgrounds, as well as the bocce, baggo, basketball and volleyball

courts. Campers participate in both indoor and outdoor activities

designed to keep them active and engaged. From sports and games

to arts and crafts, field trips and on-site entertainment, a summer of

adventure awaits!

Century Park Pavilion

Kid Zone Camp | Complements HEI!

Kid Zone is a 4 week camp, offered in two 2-week sessions, that

compliments the Hawthorn Enrichment Institute. Campers enjoy games,

activities, sports and crafts.

Teen Camps

Teens Helping Hands Camp

Join us at our new Teens Helping Hands Camp! Campers have a chance

to ‘hang out’ together at camp, while also participating and helping

others in the community. Campers will spend two days per week

swimming at the Family Aquatic Center, go on up to two field trips or

volunteer projects per week, and spend one day at camp.

Do you enjoy working with children? Did you love your own camp

experience and are ready to inspire others? Develop your oral

communication, critical-thinking, problem-solving, interpersonal and

STEAM Camp

Explore science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics at

our story-based STEAM Camp. Learn about the preschool scientific

method, problem-solve and make discoveries as you participate in

hands-on learning. This action packed camp will encourage avid STEAM

investigators to explore, invent, and conduct basic science experiments.

Safety Town Camp

An early safety education is important. Children are more prepared to

act/react when they have basic safety knowledge and skills. Safety Town

instructors and guest speakers introduce basic safety concepts and

skills. Camp activities include songs, games, stories, art projects, and

guided-play in Safety Town. Each child receives materials to extend safe

learning at home. Prior classroom experience recommended. Children

must be restroom independent. Bring a bike helmet to camp.

Summer Camp Guide

Special Recreation Association

of Central Lake County

The Vernon Hills Park District is a cooperative member agency of the

Special Recreation Association of Central Lake County. SRACLC provides

community based therapeutic recreation programs and services to

people of all ages with disabilities or special needs.

SRACLC is a cooperative effort of the Grayslake, Vernon Hills, and

Mundelein Park Districts and the Villages of Hawthorn Woods, Lake

Zurich, Libertyville, and Lincolnshire. Individuals residing within the

boundaries of the Member Agencies are considered “residents” of

SRACLC and may utilize the services.

SRACLC offers more than 500 weekly programs, special events,

virtual programs, and camps during the year. SRACLC also recognizes

that some people with disabilities prefer to participate in recreation

programs within their own Park District or Recreation Department.

SRACLC can help you with this opportunity by providing an extra

staff, if deemed necessary, behavior management support, disability

awareness training, and other adaptive services necessary for safe and

successful participation.

SRACLC needs your help!

Program leaders, part-time staff, and volunteers are needed to assist

individuals with special needs or disabilities. If you are interested in

part-time work, please contact the SRACLC office at (847) 816-4866.

SRACLC Day Camp 2022

SRACLC camps are geared towards children and teens, ages 3-21, with

special needs or those who have better success in smaller groups with

more supervision. Counselors plan fun and exciting activities such

as high energy group games, themed crafts, water play, singing and

dancing, and so much more. Campers will enjoy outdoor play each day.

Note: Campers are grouped according to age and ability.
