Matthew 19 198

Q UESTIONS & OBJECTIONS

O19:16 “I need to get my life cleaned up first.”

Those who think that they can clean up their lives don’t see their true

plight. They are standing guilty before a wrath-filled God. They have

been condemned by His Law (John 3:18; Romans 3:19). If a man commits

rape and murder and admits to the judge that he is guilty, will the

judge let him go just because the man says he will clean up his life? He is in debt to the law and

must be punished. We may be able to clean up our lives in the sight of man, but not in the sight

of God. The only way we can be cleansed is to repent and trust in the Savior.

3 The Pharisees also came to him, tempting

him, and saying to him, Is it lawful

for a man to put away his wife for every

cause?

4 And he answered and said to them,

Have you not read, that he which made

them at the beginning made them male

and female,

5 And said, For this cause shall a man

leave father and mother, and shall cleave

to his wife: and they twain shall be one

flesh?

6 Wherefore they are no more twain, but

one flesh. What therefore God has joined

together, let not man put asunder.

7 They said to him, Why did Moses then

command to give a writing of divorcement,

and to put her away?

8 He said to them, Moses because of the

hardness of your hearts suffered you to

put away your wives: but from the beginning

it was not so.

9 And I say to you, Whosoever shall put

away his wife, except it be for fornication,

and shall marry another, commits adultery:

and whoso marries her which is put

away does commit adultery.

10 His disciples said to him, If the case

of the man be so with his wife, it is not

good to marry.

11 But he said to them, All men cannot

receive this saying, save they to whom it

is given.

12 For there are some eunuchs, which

were so born from their mother’s womb:

and there are some eunuchs, which were

made eunuchs of men: and there be eunuchs,

which have made themselves eunuchs

for the kingdom of heaven’s sake.

He that is able to receive it, let him re-

19:3–6 Jesus confirmed that the creation of Adam and Eve was a real historical event when He

quoted Genesis 1:27 and 2:24 in His teaching. Genesis is quoted more than sixty times in seventeen

books of the New Testament. See also Mark 10:6–9 and 2 Corinthians 11:3 footnotes.

19:4 Evolution—the origin of sexes. Almost all forms of complex life have both male and female—horses,

dogs, humans, moths, monkeys, fish, elephants, birds, etc. The male needs the female

to reproduce, and the female needs the male to reproduce. One cannot carry on life without

the other. Which then came first according to the evolutionary theory? If a male came into being

before a female, how did the male of each species reproduce without females? How is it possible

that a male and a female each spontaneously came into being, yet they have complex, complementary

reproductive systems? If each sex was able to reproduce without the other, why (and how)

would they have developed a reproductive system that requires both sexes in order for the species

to survive? See Psalm 139:14 and Mark 10:6 footnotes.

“I myself am convinced that the theory of evolution, especially the extent to which it has been applied,

will be one of the great jokes in the history books of the future. Posterity will marvel that so

flimsy and dubious an hypothesis could be accepted with the incredible credulity that it has.”
