Dear Friends of Safe Sports Network,
Welcome to the 10th annual Safe Sports Social! Tonight is about a
collaborative team effort to celebrate keeping kids safer and on track
for success. In this challenging time, it remains as important as ever,
both physically and emotionally, for kids to participate in sports.
Keeping kids safe and engaged is critical!
I am excited to have you all attending this evening - even those
joining us from the comfort of home! Thank you for being present
for our kids. As members of the Safe Sports Donor Team, you make a
difference for kids every day - helping them succeed by keeping them
safer. You will see tonight that your impact makes a difference for
athletes and families.

2022 Safe Sports Star of the Year
The Safe Sports Star of the
Year Award is given to a
person who through words
and actions demonstrates
their commitment to
ensuring youth sports safety.
Over 35 years ago, Corflex Global

helping people resume their everyday activities; whether returning to work, getting
back into sports, or living a more active life.

Welcome to Our 2022 Keynote Speaker
Anna J. Thomas, MPH - Biography
Anna Thomas, MPH is a New Hampshire native and has been with the City of
Manchester Health Department for the past 27 years. As Public Health Director, she
provides administrative oversight to a comprehensive local health department of 70 full
and part time staff with a total budget of over $10,000,000.00. Serving an urban
community of approximately 112,000 population, she holds a particular passion for
neighborhood health improvement, resident mobilization and economic mobility.
Mrs. Thomas pursued her undergraduate work at the University of New Hampshire in
Health Management and Policy and was presented the Department’s Alumni
Recognition Award in 2008. She completed her Master of Public Health degree at
Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public
Health and The Dartmouth Institute at the Dartmouth Geisel School of Medicine. In
2001, she was selected as one of twenty national scholarship recipients by the Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention to obtain her Graduate Certificate in Public Health.
In addition, Mrs. Thomas served in the United States Army for 16 years as a Medical
Service Corps Officer and achieved the rank of Major.
Mrs. Thomas is a graduate of Leadership New Hampshire and was recognized by the
Union Leader and the Business & Industry Association of NH as one of New
Hampshire’s 2006 “Top 40 Under Forty.” She has been an Adjunct Instructor at
Dartmouth Medical School and frequent guest lecturer on public health issues at the
University of New Hampshire. She has also served on non-profit boards, foundations
and coalitions throughout New Hampshire and was presented a “Key to the City of
Manchester” in 2009.
In 2013, Mrs. Thomas was nominated as a “White House Champion of Change for
Public Health and Prevention” and in 2014, received the “Annual Community
Leadership Award” from the Mental Health Center of Greater Manchester. In 2015, she
was presented with the “Jack Lightfoot Voice for Children Award” by Child and Family
Services of New Hampshire. In 2017, she was selected as one of 40 “Emerging
Leaders in Public Health” nationally by the Kresge Foundation. In 2020, she was
awarded “Citizen of the Year” by the Greater Manchester Chamber. Lastly, Mrs.
Thomas is also a nine-year breast cancer survivor.

Donors Made a Difference for Tyler
Passion, Perseverance and a Little Help from His Friends....YOU!
Tyler’s basketball season came to an abrupt halt
with a sharp pain and pop in his knee while leaping
for a rebound. He was devastated when he learned
he had sprained his ACL. Tyler was determined to
return to basketball before season’s end. With hard
work, focus, and expert care from his Safe Sports
Athletic Trainer, Tyler returned in time to lead his
team into the post-season.
Tyler, also a talented track runner, re-injured his
knee at the start of his spring season. He once
again found himself faced with the challenge to
persevere to return to competition. He set his focus
on returning and qualifying for the NH State Meet.
Tyler did return to the track. He not only qualified
for the State meet, but crushed his sub-5-minute
mile goal!
Tyler: Two parts passion and perseverance. One
part support from Safe Sports Donors. Every
day a tough kid has a tough break. You make a
difference by supporting their fight to overcome
adversity. Thank you!
You made this possible as a Safe Sports donor. Your
support meant Tyler’s return was professionally
supervised and safer. You make a difference for kids

Student Ambassador Program
2022 Laura C. Decoster Award Recipient
Sarah DeVillers
Memorial High School
The Laura C. Decoster award is given specifically
to a Safe Sports Student Ambassador who has
gone above and beyond in promoting sports safety
in their communities. The recipient must be a
very active member with the Safe Sports Student
Ambassador program, as well as a leader among
their peers and within their communities.
The Laura C. Decoster Award is given to a Junior
or Senior Student Ambassador that embodies
key characteristics of the organization’s founding
executive director, Laura Decoster. Laura spent
her career in service to the young athletes in
Greater Manchester. The recipient of the award
must embody the same spirit and beliefs.
Sarah is a three-year member of the Student
Ambassador Program. She racked up over 50
volunteer hours while in the program, specifically
helping with the Manchester City Marathon,
Santa Shuffle, and Social on multiple occassions.
Sarah also learned life-saving skills through
the Athletes Saving Athletes program, which
translates to her being a leader on her high school
sudden cardiac arrest teams. She is active within
her school community as part of the Student-
Athlete Leadership Team and is also a leader on
the soccer field. She served as a team captain this
fall. Sarah plans to study occupational therapy at
Quinnipiac College next year.

1938 - 2021
The NHMI/Safe Sports Network team remembers with
appreciation and affection our former Board member, Henry
Roy. Henry was involved with our organization for over 25
years, and was instrumental in the development and expansion
of the Safe Sports Network programming. His conviction for
the value of sports for young people, and the worth of investing
in keeping our kids safe and well-cared for while playing the
sports that help them to become their best selves, continues to
underpin all of our work. His legacy lives on in the impact and
support that each student athlete receives through Safe Sports.
Henry was incredibly generous with his time and financial
support, reflected by his passion for our Cause. He will be
deeply missed and fondly remembered.
