Card – Access Control
In today’s business, you need to ensure that your assets are safe; in doing this you are not only protecting yourself
but also your intellectual property such as patents or products. In order to secure your doors you need to look at the
options to keep the people you don’t want in your business out. Access control products are a great way to keep
your business safe. Whether it is Keypad, Biometrics or Proximity badges, your business will be secure. With today’s
access control solutions you can customize most aspects of the systems. Some of these include:
◊ Work rules based on when that employee is or isn’t allowed on the premises
◊ Configure your system to send you an email when something is not correct with your employee
◊ You can even integrate video with the access alerts to record when a door is opened.
Items to consider when getting involved in Access Control:
◊ How many doors do you have?
◊ How many employees does your company have?
◊ Do you need different levels of security?
◊ Do you need to have dual verification? (Cards and
Biometrics)
Card – Printing
How many cards are in your wallet? Whether it’s for a membership to a gym or an ID badge for an office,
organizations, government agencies, schools and companies rely on card printer solutions to protect and
promote the unique characteristics that make people individuals, offering the ability to identify people, control
access or monitor production. We have a solution for you!
There are a few printing technologies to choose from such as:
Direct to card printing – This is the most common technology used by desktop card printer/encoders to
transfer images directly onto a plastic ID card. DTC technology prints images by heating a print ribbon beneath
a thermal printhead, resulting in the transfer of color from the ribbon to a blank card.
Reverse transfer printing – High Definition Printing gives you superior print quality, even on cards with
embedded electronics. This process works by having the ribbon and the print head meet with the HDP film
transferring a reverse image to the film. Once this is complete the card is brought in and meets with the film.
The printer heats to great temperatures adhering the film to the card producing a perfect over the edge print
and allowing a lifetime warrantee on the printhead.
Items to consider when getting involved in Card Printing:
◊ What are you using the cards for? (ID badges, time
and attendance, access control, gift cards)
◊ How long do you need the cards to last?
◊ How many cards do you need to print per month?
◊ Do you need Lamination?
Carabineers
These Carabineers are great to hold
your cards; they clip on your belt loop to
ensure your cards are always at reach.
Style and performance is the key to this
unit, as well as keeping the loss of cards
down to a minimum.
IP Video Surveillance
High Growth Business
With annual growth rates of up to 40%, it’s no wonder resellers across Canada are seeing more and more
opportunities to sell IP based cameras, recorders and related accessories.
Network cameras are being used for more than just surveillance. Industry is using them to monitor production,
nurses use them to monitor patients, retailers review traffic flow to maximize product placement, construction
companies display video on their websites so clients can watch as their buildings progress.
More and more businesses are requesting network cameras, as the advantages include quality video, remote
monitoring, easy placement of cameras, easy addition of cameras, ability to tie multiple locations to one surveillance
system, flexible storage options, and overall lower cost of ownership.
Advanced Technology
New technologies in systems provide improved video quality via Megapixel and HDTV cameras, more efficient
bandwidth and storage thanks to H.264 compression, and easier and more accurate monitoring by incorporating
video analytics.
Resellers who reach out to their customers will find that network video is in demand. Now is the time to adopt IP
video into your product and services offering, and help your business grow.
Security Cameras
Camera Evolution Continues
Network cameras are available in a wide range of prices. No longer are all IP cameras considered costly as
manufacturers are introducing next generation cameras with high quality video at a lower price.
Megapixel cameras are now joined by HDTV cameras to not only deliver high quality video, but also adhere to
industry standards. New compressions such as H.264 greatly reduce bandwidth and storage while maintaining
quality video. Power Over Ethernet simplifies camera installation.
More camera styles are being introduced such as covert cameras, unitized cameras inside outdoor housings, and
discreet compact cameras the size of a sprinkler system head.
More intelligence is being incorporated into cameras, such as tamper resistance, object detection, audio detection,
and video analytics performed right in the camera.
For those that really need analog cameras, we have those too.
Camera considerations:
◊ Analog or IP cameras required
◊ Indoor or outdoor use
◊ Zoom or Wide Lens
Security Video Recorders
Digital Video Recorders and Network Video Recorders store security camera video. DVRs record analog security camera
video and NVRs record IP camera video. Today, many models are hybrids that record both analog and network camera
video.
Choosing a Recording System:
Many would argue that the security recorder is the most important component of a security system, as how to handle
video data is a strategy unto itself. Factory assembled recorders are ideal if you don’t want to install software. Software
NVRs are very popular as they are cost effective and camera licenses can be added as required. Many software NVRs
work with all major camera brands so you can mix and match makes and models. If a multi-server multi-location
surveillance system will need to be controlled from a central monitoring system then you will want to get trained to
become a certified reseller of a high level software system. Analytics such as people counting, trip-wire, and license plate
recognition are powerful add-ons that are now available with many recording systems.
Mixing Analog and IP:
Most new security installations are network based, and legacy analog security systems can also be upgraded to IP.
Enjoy the benefits of IP and utilize the original analog cameras and cabling infrastructure by adding analog cameras
onto the network using analog to network video encoders.
Video Recorder Considerations:
12
◊ Consider the maximum number of cameras required
◊ Are you mixing IP camera manufacturers?
◊ Are you Windows or software savvy?
◊ What compression format do you want to use?
◊ Will you be zooming in on recorded video?
P/N: PAN-WJND300AP
◊ Amount of recording time required
◊ How many clients will view video at one time?
◊ Are you capturing POS information?
◊ Will system run unattended or is it being monitored?
Security and Point of Sale
When it comes to ROI, a retail surveillance system can pay off within the first year. But video data can be used as
more than just a security tool. Observing traffic flow throughout a store helps managers with product placement
to grow sales. Matching sales receipt data to a camera at the till makes it easy to search for voids and credits
and watch the corresponding video clip. Observing employee mistakes identifies where more training is needed.
Today’s technology has made IP security cameras and recording devices easy to install and configure. Adding
them to the network is the same as any other networked device and Power Over Ethernet cameras makes
installation easy. Manufacturers are making setup easy and intuitive and some recorders even scan the network
and automatically identify the network cameras for you. Gone are the days when security camera subjects are
impossible to identify. Today’s megapixel cameras bring picture quality to a whole new level.
Adding networked surveillance video to your integrated solutions is a natural fit in the retail business. SYNNEX
carries a lineup of industry leading security products and we are here to help you make sense of it all. Servicing
our customers in the retail business can be rewarding. But will these customers be around next year to give you
repeat business?
Each year, many retailers go out of business due to lost revenues caused by theft. Shoplifting, employee theft
and giving sweetheart deals to friends push retailers to the brink. The need for loss prevention presents an
excellent opportunity for you to provide security camera solutions to your customers.
When retail employees know there are cameras at the tills and in the stock rooms, behaviour patterns change
accordingly. Businesses realize a noticeable reduction in shrinkage after installing security cameras inside.
Loitering and vandalism decrease after installing security cameras outside. There is no denying its
effectiveness.
Ask your SYNNEX Sales Rep for more information on how to integrate networked video security into your
retail and POS solutions. Together we can preserve not only their business, but yours too.
We have a different take
on image quality:
image usability.
Image quality is always important, but the
benefits that you get from video surveillance are
really determined by how you will use the images.
