Gold Deposits:
New Developments and Exploration
SEG – MGEI Workshop in Semarang, Indonesia,
11 – 12 October, 2009
The Society of Economic Geologists is offering the very successful Gold
Deposit Workshop as a two-day course to be held in Semarang, Central
Java, Indonesia before the Indonesian Association of Geologists (IAGI) 2009 conference. The course is held in conjunction
with the Indonesian Society of Economic Geologists (MGEI). The workshop will be presented in English
and is similar to those previously held in Beijing, Moscow, Antofagasta, Lima, Cairns and Cape Town. Speakers will
include Richard Goldfarb (United States Geological Survey) – Orogenic gold deposits, Noel White (consultant,
Brisbane) – Epithermal gold deposits, Craig Hart (Mineral Deposit Research Unit – University of British Columbia) –
Intrusion-related gold deposits and Steve Garwin (consultant, Perth) – Carlin-type gold deposits and a separate talk
on Porphyry Cu-Au deposits in SE Asia, with an emphasis on Batu Hijau.
Materials presented will be rich in geological descriptions of some of the world’s best examples of these deposittypes,
and include sections on tectonic- and structural-settings, geochemical and geophysical signatures and ex -
ploration methods. This workshop will be of interest to all geologists, particularly those involved in gold exploration.
Date & Place: 11 – 12 October, 2009 in Semarang, Central Java, Indonesia (pre-IAGI 2009 conference).
Speakers: Richard Goldfarb, Noel White, Craig Hart and Steve Garwin.
Enrollment: professionals and students (a minimum of 75 participants required).
Fees: Early registration (prior to 14 August) – 200 USD for professionals and 20 USD for students; Late registration
(after 14 August) – 300 USD for professionals and 30 USD for students.
