Alexander received third place for the
best exploration proposal on the Gold -
corp Inc. Red Lake mine in Canada.
Most recently, he was the exploration
manager-Europe with Gold Fields Ltd.
In 2008, he joined Orsu Metals
Corporation as an exploration director.
During his exploration career,
Alexander has explored for copper-gold
porphyry, nickel sulfide, orogenic, and
epithermal gold in various countries
and continents such as Europe,
Australia, and North America, which
helped to broaden his understanding of
global and regional tectonics and metallogeny,
as well as allowing him to
establish numerous academic and
exploration contacts in various parts of
the world, and, recently, giving him the
opportunity to serve the Society of
Economic Geologists in the capacity of
regional vice-president, Northern
Eurasia, for the term 2005–2008.
Vision Statement
The Society of Economic Geologists is
progressively becoming a more and
more international organization. Still,
its main focus and membership base
remains in North America, Europe, and
Australia, followed by South America
and Africa. The former Soviet Union
countries and Asia are relatively recent
entrants to the globalized society. They
now are an integral part of the world,
economically and culturally. Yet, relatively
little is known about them and
they have a lot to offer. The geology of
this area is complex and fascinating. Its
mineral deposits are often unique in
style, size, and geological age. I see my
role as enhancing this knowledge and
promoting it across the political borders
to students, scientists, and explorationists.
I believe that this will enrich
our knowledge and help to find the
missing links in our understanding of
Mother Nature, thus benefiting all SEG
members. 1
At the AME BC Roundup09, held in Van -
couver on January 26–29, 2009, Ralph Gon -
zalez (SEG 1981 F), standing, and Richard
Nielsen (SEG 1973 SF) provided knowledgeable
and enthusiastic support for those
seeking publications, information, and
membership forms at the SEG exhibit booth.
