Leinster vs Edinburgh

Friday Night Lights is back!
Nothing unusual about that we
hear you say, except that this is
the first time in a long time that
regularly scheduled domestic
fixtures are intertwined with
International action.
Given a number of postponements of
games before Christmas, this Friday sees
us welcome Edinburgh Rugby for a fixture
that had been pencilled in for May, but
now brought forward. This game is the
first in a series of four for us over the
next month where we have three games
at home, before a trip to Treviso the first
weekend in March, all in all a busy time
for Leo and Co.
Given that the last game here in the
RDS against the Montpellier took place
under crowd restrictions, we’re delighted
these have now been lifted and that the
full contingent of the Leinster faithful can
attend for what is sure to be a crunch
fixture for both sides.
Two weeks ago we suffered a last minute
defeat away to Cardiff, while the same
weekend, our visitors for this evening
Edinburgh, also suffered defeat away to
Ospreys.
Given the interprovincial fixture last
weekend between Ulster and Connacht,
the result of that game means it a case of
2nd vs 4th for this evening.
Both sides will desperately want to get
their seasons back on track as if we’re
honest, neither would have expected to
lose away in Wales two weeks ago.
A stern, tough contest would’ve been
expected don’t get us wrong, but you
would’ve expected to taste success as
opposed defeat after the 80 minutes and
so Leo, Stuart and all involved will no
doubt want to show themselves, and the
fans, that this was a blip and that business
as usual is expected.
Our last outing against Edinburgh was
the November 2020 meeting in the
RDS, where in front of no fans, we came
away victors on a score of 50 – 10. The
Player of the Match that evening was
Dan Leavy who notched up an impressive
performance and set of stats on the field:

It’s obviously bitterly disappointing that
Dan is not in action either domestically or
internationally at this time and we, as do
all the fans wish him a speedy recovery
and can’t wait for him to be back soon.
Switching to the focus for this week’s
game and as noted above this is simply
a game neither side will want to lose as
both desperately look to get their seasons
back on track.
Edinburgh currently sit in second whilst for
ourselves, it’s fourth. A number of teams
have played 10 games while it’s nine for
Edinburgh and eight for Leinster so the
win here would give either side a much
needed boost given we both also have
players away on international duty for the
foreseeable future.
