3. In the Mitzi Newhouse Theatre in Lincoln

Center, technical rehearsals are about

to get started for the world premiere

of Happiness, with Lehrer as sound

designer. A “sound table” has been

placed in the theatre’s auditorium where

Lehrer and Drew Levy, his assistant,

have set up their computers and audio

equipment to create the sound cues that

will be executed—and adjusted—for this

afternoon’s rehearsal. © Robert Cohen

4. Now, in the theatre’s light booth from

which the sound will be operated during

actual performances, Lehrer confirms

that the sound operating system—with

the GO button the technician will use to

execute the individual cues—is properly

set up. © Robert Cohen
