DAY 1

Head to Sunset Point Winery. Sip

and swing in the winery, or grab a

bottle to go, (paired with some take-out) for a picture-perfect

Wisconsin River picnic. After dinner,

stroll the Riverfront Trail segment of the Green

Circle or venture a bit further on the Rocky Run

Spillway or the West Side Loop. For dessert – hit up

Belt’s Soft Serve for a flurry or a scoop from King

Cone or Heavens to Betsy.

DAY 2

Start your day at Wisconsin’s

oldest farmers market. Then,

stroll through more one-of-a-kind shops for cool

finds from home décor to locally crafted items

(including edible goods!), with stops at Agora, Real

Deals, Assembly, and Fall Line to start.

After checking out at the shops, grab a late brunch

at Ruby Café, Flemings or Father Fats. Once you’re

satisfied, venture to the Stevens Point Brewery

and get a behind the scenes look at how it’s done.

Sample from their beer, cider, and soda, steeped in

history as one of the oldest breweries in the nation.

For the afternoon, it’s time to float. Pick your

perfect vessel, from kayak to pontoon (with local

rentals available), and make a splash. If you’re up

for a paddle and feeling adventurous, check

out the Stevens Point Area Paddling Guide, by

MilesPaddled.com. If you’re on a boat, don’t

overlook the sandbars made for an impromptu

picnic, along the Stevens Point Flowage.

When the dinner bell rings, start with cheese

curds - this is Wisconsin, after all. If you prefer

them fresh, don’t skip Feltz Dairy, where you

can find fresh (or fried) curds made on site.

End the evening with the perfect craft

cocktail, with a stop at a classic Wisconsin

supper club, or head straight to the source

with newly imagined Great Northern Distilling

(opening soon!).

DAY 3

Start the day with a hike

through one of the leser-known

hiking areas, like Steinhaugen, or

stick with a classic from Schmeeckle to The

Mead Wildlife Area. Then, challenge a friend

to a round of disc golf at Standing Rocks Park.

After you’ve built up an appetite, head out

for one of Wisconsin’s best bloody mary’s, at

Rusty’s Backwater Saloon.

Test Your Knowledge of

TRIVIATOWN

The world’s largest trivia contest, hosted each spring by the UW–Stevens

Point’s own radio station – WWSP 90FM, calls the region home. The

event is 54-hours of trivia, with hundreds of teams competing each year.

Think you have what it takes to tackle

the world’s largest trivia contest? Flex

your knowledge of the region, or simply

make a guess, and play along with us

below. Stumped? Answers are below -

but no cheating. Good luck trivia

players - bragging rights await!

1

Name the brewery that

boasts the 1,000-foot solar

array, as part of the Central

Wisconsin Craft Collective.

2

Supper Clubs are a

Wisconsin staple, from

old fashioneds to fish

frys. Tell us the supper club

that was home to the firstever

refrigerated salad bar?

3

What one-of-a-kind

adventure contest,

homegrown in the

Stevens Point Area, is hosted

on the backwaters of the

Wisconsin River each year?

@heydanajane

4

Name the world’s

largest craft catalog

manufacturer, that has

its headquarters (and craft

outlet) in the region.

5

Where are the headquarters

for local coffee makers that

were named by Food & Wine

as the best coffee in Wisconsin?

6

Agriculture is big business in

the Stevens Point Area. Name

the four vegetable crops

that Portage County ranks first in

production for in Wisconsin.

7

Name one

of America’s

oldest

continuously

operating

breweries, that

provided beer to

Civil War soldiers

and survived

prohibition.

@aaron_hoyord

@exploring_katie

7. It’s because of businesses like the Stevens

Point Brewery who has been brewing continuously

here since 1857, that Wisconsin and Beer

are synonymous. In fact, they were brewing

beer before Stevens Point became a city.

Today, you can blend history and local flavor

with a tour & a taste.

6. Portage County ranks first in production of

potatoes, processed snap beans, sweet corn,

and peas, and leads the state for market value

of agricultural crops sold. Located in the heart

of the Central Sands region of Wisconsin,

high value vegetable crops dominate the

landscape. Here you’ll find more than 27,000

acres of potatoes planted each year. Not all

potatoes are destined to be chips, fries or

mashed – many local potatoes can be found in

cocktails, made into potato vodka from Great

Northern Distilling.

5. You’ll find the headquarters for Ruby Coffee

in Nelsonville, Wisconsin – population 125.

This haven for coffee has been the heartbeat

of the company, which launched in 2013 – and

expanded to a Stevens Point café in 2019.

4. Herrschners may have started as a street

vendor in Chicago selling sewing notions by

a young German immigrant, but the company

has been headquartered in Stevens Point

since 1970. Today you can browse their retail

store to spark your creativity.

3. Paddlequest has been around since 2002,

when it was created by Point native Matt

Kirsch. This paddling-based adventure offers

fun for all skill levels and ages, held each

summer on Wisconsin River. It’s even been

featured in Rolling Stone.

2. The first-ever refrigerated salad bar made

its debut in the 1950’s at the Sky Club Supper

Club, still in operation today in Plover.

Head in for a classic old fashioned or grab

a bottle of their own mix (named after their

long-time bartender’s recipe known as

Shifty’s) to make at home.

1. Central Waters Brewing Company, in

Amherst, is known for their sustainability

practices – including their 1,000 foot solar

array. The brewery even donates proceeds

from the sale of its beer ‘Shine On’ to the

Midwest Renewable Energy Association to

support the nation’s longest running

Energy Fair.

CAMPUS SPOTS Worth a Visit

Think the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point is only for students to explore? Think again.

Here are six local favorite spots on campus worth a visit.

Everyone is welcome to explore the Edna

Carlsten Art Gallery, housed on the second

level of the Noel Fine Arts Center. The gallery

regularly exhibits work by noted regional,

national, and international artists and

designers. Open throughout the year, when

school is in session, the gallery displays a

wide variety of mediums as well as several

permanent collections.

For a glimpse above, check out the programs

offered at the Allen F. Blocher Planetarium

and Arthur J. Pejsa Observatory. On clear

nights throughout the year, the observatory

offers a unique close-up view of the night

sky. Regardless of weather and atmospheric

conditions, the Planetarium offers a better

understanding of our universe, in addition to

their annual Laser Light Shows, set to music.

Explore the natural world around us by

visiting the Museum of Natural History,

housed in the Albertson Learning Resource

Center on campus. This family-friendly spot

offers self-guided tours and events – and

even an augmented reality sandbox to bring

landscapes to life. Don’t miss the different

exhibits including the dinosaur collection and

the large dioramas.

Visiting campus can work up an appetite,

perfect for a stop at this hidden spot. The

CPS Café can be found in the College of

Professional Studies building and is staffed

primarily by Dietetic students. The menu

features healthy options, with food sourced

from local farms, open Monday-Friday while

school is in session.

If you venture in the Chemistry-Biology

building on campus, you may not realize

this massive 170,000 square foot building

has a green roof. But visitors can check out

the Tropical Conservatory on the first floor,

with a variety of biomes, water feature and

a green wall. The most impressive part? The

windows, fans and shades are controlled automatically,

based on temperature settings.

You don’t have to be a student to enjoy

the Basement Brewhaus, located in the

Dreyfus University Center. The Brewhaus

doubles as both a coffee shop and baroffering

an array of coffee drinks, beers, and

wines. It’s a great spot to kick back and relax

after exploring the campus.

What’s New IN THE 715

2022 will see some

new developments

and additions to the

Stevens Point Area.

It should be no surprise in a

community known for collaboration,

that Central City Market,

a cooperative of local makers,

is taking shape. The project is

growing out of an 1800’s era historical

building as a space for local

food businesses to thrive. Can’t

wait until it fully opens? Head

to Heavens to Betsy Ice Cream,

which is open now.

fter sitting vacant for more than

30 years, the Fox Theater has a

new lease on life. Originally commissioned

in 1893 by G.F. Andrae,

the Opera House will bring the

space back to life, reimagining it

as a biergarten and event space.

Lake Pacawa Park, which serves

as a community hub in Plover, is

undergoing a transformation –

including the area’s first splash

pad, ADA beach improvements,

interpretative walking trails,

pavilion and more. The revitalized

space will take centerstage during

Celebrate Plover 2022, when it is

slated to reopen to the public.

Craft-made spirits are on the

move, with Great Northern

Distilling relocating to downtown

Stevens Point in 2022. The new

facility should be open to the

public mid-year and in addition to

producing award-winning spirits

will include a 29-seat tasting room

bar, dog-friendly outdoor patio,

and a private event space.

SentryWorld Golf Course, one of

the top 100 public golf courses

in the nation, will reopen to the

public, on June 1, 2022. Major

renovations to the property

have been made, from new tee

boxes, narrower fairways and the

addition of a 64-room boutique

hotel, in preparation for hosting

the 2023 USGA U.S. Senior Open.

After taking a pause during the

pandemic, the nation’s longest-running

renewable energy

event of its kind is returning!

The Energy Fair, slated for

June 24-26, brings over 11,500

attendees together to learn about

clean energy and sustainability.

The full weekend includes

workshops, family-friendly events,

live music, keynotes, food trucks,

solar-brewed beer, and more.

Lake Pacawa Park, which serves

as a community hub in Plover, is

undergoing a transformation –

including the area’s first splash

pad, ADA beach improvements,

interpretative walking trails,

pavilion and more. The revitalized

space will take centerstage during

Celebrate Plover 2022, when it is

slated to reopen to the public.

Think 26 murals aren’t quite

enough? Neither does CREATE

portage county, who plans to add

a few more public art pieces to

the mix in 2022, to expand on their

#PainttheCounty initiative. Head

out to find these insta-worthy

spots, and don’t miss the Point

Sculpture by local artist family,

the Kochanowski’s.

A new camping experience is

available for tent campers and

RVer’s, with the opening of

Springhetti Acres near Rosholt.

The campground will welcome

campers for its first full season

in 2022 and offers 156-acres with

hiking and four-wheeling trails.

THINGS TO DO

Kids Guide to the

GREEN CIRCLE TRAIL

FOR THE YOUNGER CROWD: Explore a blend

of the Green Circle Trail’s Brickyard Trail

segment and the Stevens Point Sculpture

Park. The trails combine to make a perfect

loop – no road crossing necessary. Plan to

explore the sculptures and art along the trail

and don’t be afraid to touch and interact

with the pieces. Spin DeeDee Morrison’s

‘Landscape with Perspective’ and amplify

your voice in the ‘Acoustic Woodland Locator’.

Learn more about the Brickyard Trail’s history

at the trail kiosk, where the Zenoff Park

parking lot and the trail meet. (Tip: In the

winter, this is a perfect route for snowshoeing.

In the summer, don’t forget bug spray!)

TRAIL DETAILS: Brickyard Trail

SURFACE: Crushed granite and sidewalks

MILEAGE: 1.0 (for the loop including

the Sculpture Park main trail and

Brickyard Trail)

FOR THE OLDER CROWD (10+): Head out for

a scenic route along the Plover River Trail

segment of the Green Circle Trail. This is

one of the longest segments of the trail. In

the winter (when conditions exist) the trail is

groomed for both diagonal and skate cross

country skiing. In the spring, winter and fall,

the route is perfect for exploring the outdoors

as it meanders along the peaceful Plover

River. The river is a popular kayaking and

canoing route. Watch for animal tracks and

birds along the route, throughout the year.

(Tip: Geocache for a fun scavenger hunt! Many

are hidden along the route.)

TRAIL DETAILS: Plover River Trail

SURFACE: Crushed granite

MILEAGE: 3.6 (7.2 for the entire trail)

Have All Day &

FEELING ADVENTUROUS?

Spend the whole day exploring the Green

Circle Trail. We recommend starting at the

Schmeeckle Reserve Visitor Center with free

parking, information, souvenirs, and exhibits.

Heading east takes you to the Moses Creek

section with the longest boardwalk on the

trail, along the Plover River, and to Iverson

Park. Heading west takes you to the Brickyard

section, the Stevens Point Sculpture Park,

and to parks along the Wisconsin River.

Numerous parks along the way are perfect

places to stop for breaks – fill up your water,

use the restroom, have a picnic, and play.

The Stevens Point Farmers Market runs

Gaining Traction

& BUILDING TRAIL

How an experimental

bike trail set off a

chain of events in the

Stevens Point Area.

On any given day you’ll find cars

decked out with bike racks

parked along a wooded skyline at

Standing Rocks Park. The park,

Portage County’s largest, is known

for outdoor fun, all year long. One

activity (spoiler alert: biking) has

been growing in popularity, due in

part to the work of the Point Area

Single Track Association (PASTA),

Friends of Standing Rocks, and

Portage County Parks.

Scott Cole, avid rider and

founding member of PASTA

knows the importance of doing

things right. In 2004, the park

saw an experimental single track

trail set in motion. What followed

was the development of a 14-mile

technical mountain bike trail, the

first in the area.

The new trail set off a chain of

events, changing the experiment

into a movement. The changes

are visible in improvements

throughout the park beyond

biking including; snow-making

equipment, the Behnke Olson

Outdoor Recreation Center, and

a lighted loop for cross-country

skiing. The addition of beginner

flow trails and advanced trails with

fun features, which began in 2019,

quadrupled ridership

in just over a year.

Today, thanks

to the work of

volunteers,

fundraising

and a partnership

with

the parks

department,

the trail work is

poised to continue.

“The riding is

challenging

and fun, and

available all

year long”

With abundant riding options

across Wisconsin, Cole had

plenty of thoughts about why

Standing Rocks should be on

every rider’s must list. To him, it

all comes down to variety. New

machine-built trails add berms,

jumps, and rollers. These trails

offer accessibility to beginners but

are still fun for advanced riders.

“Add in the elevation changes,

beautiful, wooded views, and the

combination of old school narrow

legacy trails with wide and smooth

flow trails – it is a perfect mix,”

said Cole.

The fun doesn’t stop when

the snow starts. In the winter,

fat tire biking opens up a completely

new ride experience with

groomed trails. “The riding is

challenging and fun, and

available all year long,”

said Cole.

When daylight hours are

at a premium, the lighted

ski trails help to partially

illuminate the fat tire

bike trails. “Fat tire biking

is allowed at night, and helmet

and handlebar lights are required

for safely navigating the trails,”

said Cole.

PADDLE GUIDE: Tomorrow River

by Timothy Bauer of MilesPaddled.com

TIME NEEDED: 3-6 hours

MILES PADDLED: 4-16 miles

This trip explores the Tomorrow

River, an endearingly narrow,

intimate stream with crystal

clear water, nice current, and a

couple of boulders to dodge and

a sense of quiet solitude. The

Tomorrow is a must-paddle

tucked away in the gentle hills

of central Wisconsin.

SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate

CLASS DIFFICULTY: Quietwater

with riffles and some

Class I rapids

GRADIENT: 2.7’ per mile

TIME OF YEAR TO PADDLE:

Water levels are usually

reliable from County Q to

Downtown Amherst, but can

run low from Amherst to

Cobbtown Road. Paddlers

should be cautious of strong

currents and high water levels

after rainstorms.

PUT-IN & TAKE-OUT: County

Q in Nelsonville/ Downtown

Amherst, Buchholz Rd.,

County DD, or Cobbtown Rd.

WILDLIFE: Great blue

herons, sandhill cranes,

songbirds, dragonflies,

trout, deer, beavers, mink,

and muskrats.

TRIP DESCRIPTION: The most

popular starting point to begin a

trip on the Tomorrow-Waupaca is

along the banks of the beautiful

Rising Star mill in Nelsonville,

where art exhibits and bluegrass

concerts are held. Start here, and

you’ll be greeted with views of

cedar-lined woods and meadows

as the segment meanders. Four

miles downstream in the Village of

Amherst, be sure to follow Portage

signs to avoid dam.

Once you reach Amherst, stop

for a stroll and lunch in its

charming downtown or venture

to the popular Central Waters

Brewing Company. Continue on

the Tomorrow River, suggested

take-outs are at Highway T or

Highway DD. Please note: during

high water, submerged logs,

downed trees, and swirling water

can cause problems and should

require skilled navigation. During

low water, rocks and shallows

will be present and can hang up a

@tomorrowriverhomestead

boat. In addition, paddlers should

be on the look-out for occasional

barbed and electrical wires around

Highway T and Highway DD.

ALTERNATIVE TRIPS: Paddlers

have two options to extend

the trip noted above and begin

upstream to make a longer outing

on the water: at Highway 161 (aka

Loberg Road) or County Highway

Q (aka Rolling Hills Road). If you

prefer to avoid the mile paddle

on the flat calm waters of the Mill

Pond (above the dam in Amherst),

it can be avoided by taking out at

Cate Park.

Arguably, the best section of the

river is upstream of the Amherst

dam – from County Q to Cate Park,

for a 5.5-mile trip that showcases

its best features with the fewest

nuisances. It makes for a delightful

time outdoors that’s neither

too short nor too taxing. That

said, the section of river with the

most stunning boulders and lovely

rolling hills is in between Buchholz

Road and County DD. Watch for

1-2’ ledges below the bridges at

Keener Road and County DD.

NOT A PADDLER? OPT FOR A

TUBE! The Tomorrow River is

also perfect for a gentle tube

ride. The best tubing routes skip

the pond. Put in at Otto Road and

takeout at County Rd DD for a

memorable ride.

Reclaimed & REPURPOSED

Reimagining

a space for

community +

collaboration

in Plover.

WHAT WOULD YOU DO WITH

ALMOST 100,000 SQUARE

FEET? In central Wisconsin, this

hypothetical question became

reality where a former Shopko sat

lifeless. What came next has been

a work in progress, reimagining

the building to blend businesses

and service for the community.

Local developers saw an opportunity.

Together they worked

to determine the future of the

otherwise abandoned spot, by

using the bones to redefine the

massive footprint, announcing

plans for their vision in 2019

– dubbed Artist & Fare. After

countless hours of work the vision

became reality opening to the

public in phases beginning in 2021.

Today, stepping into the main

doors of Artist & Fare you’ll be

greeted by the large space,

the smell of fresh coffee and a

massive mural of one of the first

businesses to move in - O’so

Brewing Company.

O’so Brewing, which was founded

in 2007, has experienced dramatic

growth over the years – including

being named one of the fastest

growing breweries in Wisconsin.

To better meet demand, they

needed more room to brew. The

move to Artist & Fare meant the

ability to triple their space. Inside,

you’ll find an impressive collection

of beer memorabilia, home

brewing supplies (for wine & beer)

with Point Brew Supply, tap room,

and plenty of space to spread out

– including a second level balcony

seating area with views of the

entire brewery.

What to watch for in 2022? The

addition to food on-site with a

kitchen planned. Order up some

lunch – then grab a fresh beer

right off the canning line – with

the proceeds going to the charity

of the month.

WHERE TO FIND IT: During the traditional

Market at the Berard Center.

DID YOU KNOW? The historic Mathias Mitchell

Public Square in downtown Stevens Point is

the end of Main St. has been the focal point for

farmers selling their wares since 1847.

FOOD

STRAIGHT FROM the Source

Throughout the Stevens Point Area, you’ll find places where you can taste, learn, and see for

yourself why Agritourism is so noteworthy in central Wisconsin.

ADELANTE FARM

MARKET KITCHEN

@liberationfarmers

Get your farm-to-table fix

at Adelante, a local food

marketplace that is a part

coffee roastery and part

community gathering

space through Liberation

pm, and Taco Tuesdays

featuring tacos, tamales,

and pozole. Make sure to

check out their Facebook

Page for updates regarding

their special events.

ROCK RIDGE

VINEYARD

Rock Ridge Vineyard

Venture into a vineyard and

be a part of the winemaking

experience! Go behind

the scenes at Rock Ridge

Vineyard - and help harvest

grapes in the early fall - for

this one-of-a-kind experience

in the Stevens Point

Area. This agritourism

experience puts you in the

fields where wine begins

its journey at Rock Ridge

Vineyard. Typically harvest

begins in late August

through September.

SOPA FAIRVIEW

FARM

Baily Kruzan

Nothing says summer

more than a field of

gorgeous sunflowers.

In the Stevens Point Area,

explore the expansive field

of flowers at Sopa Fairview

Farm, typically planted on

Old Amish Road, where

the public is welcome to

meander through the

field and take pictures.

While it varies, peak

blooms are usually ready

in late July and early

August. Don’t forget to

bring cash to purchase

their sunflower oil!

LONELY OAKS

FARM

@jcase440

For more local finds, head

straight to the source

for brunch on the farm at

Lonely Oak Farms. The

farm offers brunch every

Sunday, from Mother’s Day

through Halloween. The

best part? After brunch,

head out and explore the

expansive 33,000 acres at

the state’s largest Wildlife

Area – the George W. Mead

– which neighbors Lonely

Oak Farms.

fall, they host two corn

mazes (3-acre or 12-acre)

and of course, no stop is

complete without fresh

cow’s milk) and a scoop of

Quench your hunger

(& thirst) with our

guide to the best

spots for breakfast,

lunch, dinner and

in-between!

Morning to Night:

FOOD GUIDE

BREAKFAST

Start your day at the Wooden Chair, a staple in the

region. While their menu is stacked with sweet to

savory, try the hard to pronounce (but delicious!) Brotomushepperasheese omelet. Or,

opt for a short stack – with the Vegan Banana Pancakes from Wicked Willow or the sweet

and salty Pecan Pancakes from the Rock-n-Roll Café. Other popular breakfast spots

include Franny’s and Olympia. Must have coffee? Grab a cup at Mission Coffeehouse, Emy

J’s, Coffee Studio, Zest and Ruby.

@thevillagehive

LOOKING FOR A LATER START?

LUNCH

@spacoop

Get ready for a picture-perfect cheese pull at Arbuckles for their

Italian Fries - a Stevens Point Area staple or grab lunch with a view,

at PJ’s, just steps from the SentryWorld Golf course. Grab a cozy booth with a throwback

vibe at Flemings. This 50s inspired diner serves up comfort food from chips & onion dip

to a loaded grilled cheese to pair with a malt. Or, go spicy with lunch at one of these local

favorites; El Mezcal, Tulum, and El Molcajete.

While Ruby Cafe is known for their flavorful &

colorful coffee, including their popular maple latte,

don’t overlook their crepes. Pick between the

Nutella-Banana Crepes and the Crepes Benedict

for a sweet or savory option. At Mikey’s along with

classics like avocado toast - plus a kid’s menu -

you’ll find a Blueberry Pancake Old Fashioned and

the delicious Donut Fried Chicken Sandwich. For

more, you can’t go wrong with chicken and waffles

at Father Fats, with a mimosa – or head to brunch

on the farm, at Lonely Oak Farms, held on Sundays

from Mother’s Day to Halloween.

UNEXPECTED FINDS

Dig into a comforting bowl of Pho

at Mama Mai’s or Point Market &

Vietnamese Restaurant (and don’t

skip the Home mural by Midwest

artist Xee Reiter).

While cheese curds will always

have our heart, amp up your

appetizers at Wissota with their

adventurous options from bone

marrow or the smoky bacon slab.

In the mood for Italian? Check

out the Violet Basil (one of the

newest restaurants in the region)

for classic Neapolitan pizza, or the

prosciutto and burrata board.

Take your tastebuds on a trip

with Korean cuisine at Dosirak,

with staples from Bimibop to

Dak-Gangjung.

DINNER & DRINKS?

DINNER

If you’re in the

mood for a traditional

Wisconsin Supper Club check out the

Sky Club. Known as the home to the first

refrigerated salad bar in the United States,

this classic spot has been family owned

since the 1930’s. For more supper club

experiences, head to Two Lakes Supper

Club or Michele’s. The Wisconsin Fish Fry

scene in the Stevens Point Area serves up

some stiff competition – with fiercely loyal

fans. Break away from the traditional, with a

twist on the classics with Point After Pub’s

fish Reuben, cajun catfish at Hiawatha, or

the smelt fries at Rusty’s Backwater (with

their infamous Bloody Mary on the side).

Can’t wait until Friday? Check out Ambrosia’s

and Hilltop who serve it up daily.

If you’re looking for a great cocktail, grab a seat at the bar of Great Northern

Distilling’s new mixology bar (coming soon!), Chef’s Kitchen, or Muse. Order a

pint to fit your palate at Guu’s on Main, Mikey’s or Rookies all with a penchant

for local craft brews and impressive selections. Or, go straight to the source

of local beer, wine and spirit makers of the Central Wisconsin Craft Collective

– drinking fireside at the barrel-aging giant Central Waters, sipping wine in

hammock chairs at Sunset Point Winery, or grabbing a beer straight from the

canning line at O’so.

HAVE A

SWEET

TOOTH?

Don’t be afraid

to start with

dessert. Order

delicious pie at

Cozy Kitchen or

the Polonia Café

or dig into the

caramel parfait

at Father Fats.

Or, grab baked

goods to go from

one of the area’s

bakeries, Main

Grain, Earthcrust

(tucked in the

Co-op), Village

Hive or Zest.

Al Fresco EATS

What makes a great meal even better? Dining al fresco! Here are

some top picks for outdoor dining in the Stevens Point Area.

@nathanieltaylorrr

WATERFRONT VIEWS

Enjoy the Northwoods (minus the drive) at

Anchor Bay Bar and Grill where their sandy

outdoor deck will give you great views of the

Wisconsin River. Further up the river, hop right

off the boat to grab a bite at Bahamas, with

a large dock and patio umbrellas. Then, keep

heading north to find Bullheads Bar and Grill.

You don’t have to be camping at the adjoining

Rivers Edge to park your boat (or car) and grab

a table overlooking the water.

On Lake DuBay, you’ll find a perfect beach

view at Tiki Beach Bar and Grill! Kick back

on the sandy beach, before grabbing a

drink and a meal.

PERFECT PATIOS

Find a cozy spot on Father Fats back patio,

sitting under the frame of a greenhouse. In

season, vegetables grown there are harvested

and used. Mix great craft beer and outdoor

seating with a stop at Guu’s On Main, with

a fun patio tucked behind the building. Or,

head straight to the source with a visit to

Amherst to visit Central Waters. Grab a pint

(and food truck finds, in season) to enjoy with

countryside views, where picnic tables,

fire pits, lights, and beer barrels offer a

cozy spot. For more, don’t skip the patio at

Amber Grill, with an outdoor bar and lots of

seating. You can’t beat the view from PJ’s patio

complete with firepits and golf course views.

More outdoor seating is available throughout

the Stevens Point Area! For patio sips, don’t

miss O’so Brewing Company, Emy J’s,

or Mission Coffee House. Or, for food and

drinks combined try McZ’s Brew Pub, Mikey’s

Bar and Grill, Arbuckles, Hilltop, Buffalo Wild

Wings, or Muse.

LODGING

Pictured: Claflin House | Photo By: Quyen Hom

COZY STAYS & Waterfront Views

From secluded rustic retreats to charming homes with modern comforts, we’ve got you covered for your

next home away from home.

IF YOU’RE LOOKING FOR ALL THE

MODERN COMFORTS: Start with

the Claflin House. This charming

short-term vacation rental was

originally built in 1875 and is

filled with charm, local art and

top-notch amenities. Just a few

blocks from downtown Stevens

Point it comfortably accommodates

8, with four bedrooms, and 5

and a half baths and is pet friendly.

Or, check out the Tomorrow

River Homestead in Nelsonville,

where the Tomorrow River (a class

A trout stream) winds, and the

beautiful Nelsonville Sanctuary

is within walking distance. Inside

the cozy and light-filled space,

you’ll find five private rooms, a

large kitchen, three and a half

bathrooms & two living rooms.

FOR A QUIET COUNTRY

GETAWAY: Check out the Artha

Sustainable Living Center on

55 beautiful acres. Here you’ll

find a serene retreat, including

a yoga studio, where you can

relax in a renovated farmhouse.

In the summer, you’ll find an

organic garden, and all yearround

renewable energy systems

powering the location. Looking for

another secluded spot? Explore

the one-of-a-kind Amherst

Riverdance Cabin on the shores

of the Tomorrow River. This

cabin is all about the details,

including the hand-designed

mosaic bathroom floor and tree

staircase with the railings made

with retired snowshoes. While it

feels tucked away, it is the perfect

spot to venture out to paddle the

river, bike the Tomorrow River

State Trail, or visit Central Waters

Brewing Company.

PREFER A WATERFRONT VIEW?

Start with the Water Dragon Inn, a

stone cottage along the shores of

the McDill Pond. This posh setting

offers room for up to 8 with three

bedrooms (+ en suites), plus plenty

of cozy extras from fireplaces

to a sun porch. Part of the

Destination Wellness brand, it’s

connected to the area’s full-service

Wellness Spa, with Stay &

Spa package options.

IF YOU’RE LOOKING FOR

CAMPSITES WITH A VIEW: You’ll

find waterfront sites available at

Lake Emily County Park, Jordan

County Park and DuBay County

Park. You’ll be closest to the

water at DuBay County Park, with

sites 5-13 and sites 32-36, which

are just up the shore from the

swimming beach and picnic area.

At Jordan County Park there are

three walk-in sites that are worth

the extra effort for the sound

of water peacefully lapping the

shore – and perfect for paddlers.

Along the shores of the 96-acre

Lake Emily, you’ll want to scope

out water views on sites 52-64.

Beyond the lake, you’ll also have

easy access to the Tomorrow River

State Trail.

DON’T HAVE CAMPING GEAR?

Don’t overlook campgrounds like

Rivers Edge and Lake DuBay

Shores that offer cabin rentals

with waterfront views. At Oasis

and Vista Royalle Campgrounds

you’ll find additional cabins for

rent, and while they don’t offer

direct waterfront views there are

plenty of other amenities for a

perfect stay.

FAIRWAY Views

A unique getaway and golf experience in the Stevens Point Area

Just steps from the 18th fairway on the championship-level

SentryWorld golf course lies the newest

hotel in the Stevens Point Area. The property,

known as The Inn at SentryWorld is much more

than a place to stay.

Filled with Wisconsin charm and Midwest hospitality

the boutique hotel will welcome guests home

with stunning views, comfortable spaces, and a

long list of amenities. While golf may be a primary

part of the stay for guests, the on-site Outfitters

will help plan the perfect off-site Wisconsin adventures

from biking the Green Circle Trail to fishing

the Wisconsin River, in addition to winter recreation

options.

For relaxing and enjoying the view, head to the

Living Room with its beautiful two-way fireplace

or the screened-in Back Porch just steps from

the outdoor stone fire pit. Got an appetite?

Swing by the Library Café or order room service

featuring house-baked items, specialty coffee,

and grab-and-go items. More dining is available

on property, including PJ’s and Muse. For guests

traveling with kids, there are plenty of activities

available to keep them happy with the on-site Kids

Club filled with games from pinball to more contemporary

options.

Throughout the property, guests can expect to find

a warm mix of stone and timbers that showcase the

character of Wisconsin and bring the beauty of the

outdoors inside. On the golf course, a new all-inclusive

experience will debut in 2022. Golfers will

be able to enjoy two new on-course refreshment

stations complete with locally curated options with

food, beverages and gratuities included. Stay and

play packages are available.

The Inn, and adjoining campus, are also well-suited

to host picturesque corporate retreats or events—

from intimate get-togethers in our Gathering

Rooms to large receptions, weddings, tradeshows,

and even concerts in the Fieldhouse.
