Creatures was started to support the 

surfing lifestyle and shaped by the coast 

we call home. As surfers, we established 

Creatures of Leisure to design and build 

the best surf products. From humble 

beginnings in the garage behind our house 

we’ve grown to where we are today, never 

straying from our dedication to product 

quality and innovation. 

CREATURES PIONEERING HISTORY 

PURPOSE-BUILT SURF GEAR FOR A LIFETIME OF DISCOVERY. SINCE 1987.

FLEXIBLE YET INCREDIBLY STRONG 

In 1981, Simon Anderson introduced the thruster to surfing. It 

became the new performance standard, leading Simon to joke that he 

should have patented the thing. Everyone who’s ever ridden one really 

owes him a beer. 

Creatures’ Founder John Malloy did the same with surf leashes. Twice. 

In the 70s John introduced urethane as the “ultimate original cord” 

material. In 2002, he invented the double-bearing stainless steel 

swivel that won’t seize up in saltwater. Neither breakthrough was 

patented. Both remain the industry standard globally to this day. 

Maybe we all owe John a couple of tins too? 

Since those breakthroughs, we’ve continued to innovate as well. 

Creatures introduced the Non-Slip Cuff for comfort and security, 

SureFire Release tabs for safety, and the DNA Flex Mould, which 

solved the age-old issue of leashes breaking where the cord joins the 

swivel. 

John may have retired, but we all remain committed to his legacy of 

providing the most reliable, high-performance leashes on the market.
