The First Berliner Art Book 2021 ©
Dear artists, collectors, gallerists and beloved art friends. We are excited and honored to present you with the new edition of The First Berliner Art Book 2021 ©. Art Management Berlin’s new series of contemporary art includes artists of the highest caliber, hailing from the four corners of the world. The present selection has been made, as usual, with great concern, in order to offer you both the works of our previously acclaimed artists and of artists collaborating with Art Management Berlin for the first time. The changing world is reflected in the choice of the current selection. Our collaboration with the Sony Center am Potsdamer Platz in Berlin has paid off over the years, and we are proud, this year too, to be able to include so many artists, enriching thus Art Management Berlin. Through the current edition, it was our intention to capture the attention of our international circuit of galleries and collectors interested in the new flows and trends in Contemporary Art. Our society is becoming more introverted than ever and offers us unsuspected reserves of creativity. Self-analysis, personal stimulation and the deep desire of self-fulfillment are among the crtiteria guiding these artists. In this edition, we purport to stimulate the continuous growth of the selected artists and to put forth their capitalization in the art market worldwide. An immense thank you to all of you who have added your contribution to the development of contemporary art, with your talent and your creativity. You are a continuous source of inspiration. With high consideration, Gabriela Caranfil curator AMB

Ai-Wen Wu Kratz is a naturalized U.S. citizen, originally
from Hong Kong. She received her art education
mostly in the U.S.
She attributes her visual fluency to her ethnic roots, and
her openness to the correlations between fields. She finds great interest in literature,
contemporary stage design, choreographic lines in dance and the marvel of vocal
art. In her work, she purposely delivers no specific messages. It is the spiritual
and intellectual qualities that she is aiming at with colors, lines, shapes, forms and
movements. Kratz has exhibited in the U.S., France, Germany, England, Egypt, Austria,

his portraiture images.
In 2019 Barry was appointed ‘Chevalier Académicien’ of the Mondial Art Academia
based in France. His Vietnam portraiture work was published internationally in
February 2020. Barry thoroughly enjoys the creative side of photography, planning
and then bringing his ideas to life.

Berik Zhandar is an artist from Kazakhstan,
Shymkent city. In 1998, he graduated from the
Kazakh National Academy of arts in Almaty.
In the mid-90s, the Hungarian Embassy in Kazakhstan held an exhibition at the
Abylkhan Kasteev Museum in Almaty, dedicated to the French artist Viktor Vasareli,
representative of the «Op-art» direction. Greatly influenced by this exhibition, Berik
created ten geometric compositions. The first one is «Green field”, followed by «May
1», «Morning», «Day and night», etc. Geometric abstraction has emerged as one of
the main areas of his creativity. The initial sketches are done on paper, with color
pencils, gouache, etc. They are then digitally processed on the computer.

Ms.Chieko Horinouchi has found her place in
creating dolls. She spent 40 years to achieve
her aim. Her work is quite original, and she uses various materials. She won several
prizes: the Japan fine Arts Exhibition Award, Japan Contemporary Crafts Arts
Exhibition Awards, etc. She says that it is not easy to create a work moving the
hearts of the people. She wants her dolls to be both ‘alive’ and appeasing, rather
than just beautiful. She dresses her dolls to reflect the four seasons.
After a long cold winter when the land is icy and air is so cold, all living creatures
begin to move around when they feeling the first signs of Spring coming. Chieko
express the breath and energy of those Spring movements by drawing circles and
ovals patterns on the doll costumes. With the work “Sign Of Spring”, she earned a
Main Membership Award at the Japan Contemporary Art Crafts Exhibition.

His life is a story of resilience through painting.
After a serious accident 20 years ago, that
turned his life upside down, he devoted himself entirely to art. He lives from
landscapes. On a path turned towards the essential, he aspires to spirituality, and
to the harmony of man’s relationship with nature, seeking to capture the sensitive
beyond the appearances, questioning, through the poetry of passage and silence,
the possibilities of the representation of what seems to be at stake: unity of man
and the cosmos, unity of man and meaning, interdependence of phenomena.
He has permanent exhibits in French galleries and abroad, and takes part in major
international art fairs.

Eston Tan was born in Penang, Malaysia. Now
based in Taiwan, he is an accomplished painter,
acknowledged as a master of chiaroscuro both at
home and internationally. He is best known for
his night scenes, done in rich textures and colors,
characterized by adeptly placed dots, sparkles of light that turn urban jungles into
mesmerizing tangles of nocturnal visual poetry set on canvas. His visually rich and
textured works mirror Eston’s own life journey, reflections of his own experiences,
from working in the evenings and nights as a youth, his travels through lush
countrysides and bustling urbanity in various parts of the world, and most recently
the emotions felt leading towards the birth of his youngest child. Eston Tan’s paintings
evoke feelings of hope for the future, drawing from his own positivity and spiritual
strength. The contrasting hues of light and dark in his works represent the balance
of life, observations by the artist of the constant flux he sees society to constantly
be in, as attitudes and ideals change , as time passes, depicted as visual transitions
from dark to light, which is often seen in his paintings.
What one feels looking at Eston’s paintings is a strong consciousness of being,
projected with a sense of hope for what lies ahead, grounded by lessons gained from
his experience, yet standing firm in the now, as the artist lives his life, in harmony
with the world around him.

My ideal is to act with concentration and silence, so
that I can create the form that fits like a glove with
the emotion that caused the form. Emotions, which I
cannot express in words - but I show them by giving them a shape.
As a choreographer I shape the sound of my emotions. A world of form that I feel
all around me, like the movement of a silk scarf that follows a dancer. Uniquely cast,
patinated or partly polished, this is how I give shine to my feelings.

Fred Smilde’s background is in classical music.
He has a Masters degree in piano performance
from Peabody Conservatory at the Johns Hopkins
University. He has recorded a CD, taught numerous
classes in Music Theory and given many concerts. While in the Doctoral program at
Peabody Conservatory, he decided it was in his best interest to leave. In October of
2008, after roughly 10 years of creative inactivity, he began to paint. In the process,
he has found that the challenges and problems one faces in the two mediums (music
and painting) are very similar, though they are technically different. One is faced
with the utilization of space (time) to make a comprehensible whole. Structure in
time becomes structure in space.

Henrik Brøndsted, a photographer, started out with a camera loaded with black and
white film. He has continued to use film because of the grains that, he believes, add
something special to the pictures. Portraits is his favorite genre and he has won a
Gold Medal for best black and white portrait. His recent portraits are more feelings
than identity, thus adding a poetry to the picture. And poetry is what he looks for
when shooting in color, after which he hand-paints the pictures with non-realistic
colors or adds objects to them in order to provoke a certain reality.

The sculptures of Hermien Buytendijk (Holland) strongly express her imagination
into ceramics. Dreams and wordplays are being built into three dimensional layers
by hand. Her human and animal figures are created like mild mocking birds: selfirony
is what her work is based on. She tries to capture the personality of her
subjects, including their follies and weaknesses. The sculptures often express her
moods. With a keen sense of the absurd, her “Unica” often transcends reality, but is
still recognizable and often has you smile.
Her most recent book “Niets is wat het lijkt” ISBB/EAN: 978-90-79748-01-3.

Having obtained her bachelor degree in Visual
Arts in Montreal, Jocelyne Ménard remained a civil
servant for 36 years. When she retired, she realized that creation was becoming more
and more important to her, so she started painting. She had the idea to incorporate
various recycled objects into her paintings. From old jewels to rusted pipes, from
wooden pieces of all sizes to chair legs; nothing was left out. The integration of these
objects in her paintings reflects her environmental commitment, while resulting in
a unique style that gives these objects a second life.

Hyperrealistic painter Abeling is fascinated by the emptiness and silence of the
northern Dutch landscape. He tries to create with a minimum of objects an enigmatic
mood. All the elements, he uses are derived from reality, but not in the combination
that can be seen in his paintings. Here, he creates a private world that only exists
in his imagination.
His paintings stand out for their mysterious atmosphere. The total desolation in his
images creates a quality of air so strange as to appear imaginary.

“Goddess and Muse. People often think of the Goddess as a fertility
deity only. Not at all—she’s the muse. She’s the inspirer of poetry.
She’s the inspirer of the spirit. So, she has three functions: one, to give us life; two,
to be the one who receives us in death; and three, to inspire our spiritual, poetic
realization.”

Boseok Park it’s a fractal artist from Korea and
a Professor at the Hansung University Design
Arts Institute in Seoul.
What is a fractal? The theory is that even if an
object is infinitely enlarged or reduced, the shape of the object lasts.
All his work is based on Benoit B. Mandelbrot’s (mathematician) theory of ‘infinite
repetition’. “I repeat simple forms endlessly and reflect them in my work. If you take
a closer look, you can see that simple forms are constantly repeating into complex
sculptural shapes. Differentiation from other designs is based on scientific theory.
In other words, the mathematical theory of the fractal is expressed as a work of art.

Theo Golb was born in China, to Ukrainian
parents. He spent the first half of his life in
Germany, Lithuania and Ukraine before settling
in Montreal in 1992 His style developed along a very lengthy and complex path,
ultimately taking its current form around 2000, after a short stay in Morocco – the
country he calls ‘’the promised land”, where colours turn rapturous under a divine
light.
Theo Golb’s early passion for architecture and music has become increasingly evident
in his most recent compositions. The polyphonic principles of Baroque music and
geometric logic of architecture allow him to create abstract compositions of rare
intensity, in which geometry turns fluid, generating its own vibrant reality.
