I
’ve been home for about an hour after
attending the Swansea game.
Naturally, I’m disappointed that we didn’t win,
but as one QPR employee mentioned on Twitter
– if we’d drawn at Coventry and beaten Swansea
we’d all be in a different mood after four points
from two games than perhaps we are right now.
The reality is that results often go against
expectation in the Championship. If that wasn’t
the case, we would surely have taken more
than just two points from nine available against
Reading, Peterborough and Barnsley this
season.
Those clubs currently make up three of the
bottom four – yet even Reading conceding 51
goals, the second highest in the division, is no
guarantee of a hatful of goals for us today.
Swansea were 17th in the table ahead of their
visit, with three games in hand on some of the
sides above them. There was every incentive
for them to go for the win, yet throughout the
game they had the look of a team who came for
the draw.
They doubled up on Chris Willock, got men
behind the ball and rode their luck at times.
Don’t forget, we still have a major creative
influence in Ilias Chair playing for Morocco at
AFCON and he’ll be there until Sunday at least.
Back in August, I didn’t think we had the strength
in depth to mount a challenge for automatic
promotion. As we move towards the final three
months of the season, we’re doing fine.
It was my first trip to QPR since the
Bournemouth game last month. It was lovely to
see the usual gang in W12 and the pies looked
so good I nearly put a couple in my pocket for
the tube ride home.
It was also great to see Dion Sanderson in
main reception before the game following
the announcement of his loan from Wolves.
He impressed me while playing against us for
Birmingham earlier in the season. Let’s make
him welcome.
