he club have had a tough
season for a variety of
reasons, however Veljko is an
excellent coach and there is no doubt
that he will bring a very well-organised
team to our stadium today, one that
can deliver a high level of performance.
They have a nice blend of youthful
energy and good quality experience,
and we are very aware that they will
present a formidable challenge. As
always, it is an encounter we are very
much looking forward to, and while we
are not permitted to share a postgame
drink with Veljko and his staff,
we wish everyone a safe journey back
to Berkshire.
The game on Tuesday evening against
Swansea was obviously frustrating. Of
course, we never want to drop points
in any fixture, however the home
games are seen as vitally important
for any team with high aspirations.
It is important not to lose sight of
the bigger picture, and the players
deserve much praise for delivering
four consecutive wins and moving
themselves into a strong league
position. Expectations naturally get
raised and I believe it is of course
important for our supporters to enjoy
seeing the team do well, but similarly,
this division presents a tough challenge
with every single fixture. On occasion
we must recognise that taking one
point from a game might prove
invaluable come the end of the season.
In addition, with individuals away on
international duty and the injuries that
naturally accompany this stage of a
campaign, the players have stepped up
and responded well to being asked to
play unfamiliar roles or slightly differing
formations. They have displayed a
unity and togetherness combined with
an outstanding work ethic and these
attributes, combined with no shortage
of skill, have moved them into such a
positive position.
With the league schedule meaning we
soon play another seven games in 21
days, it would obviously help to add some
depth and quality to the squad, but only if
the right players become available.
