HOOPS OUR CLUB AMBASSADOR’S VIEWS ON ALL THINGS QPR… G ood afternoon and welcome back to the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium for today’s game against Reading. Reading have had a difficult season so far and sit just above the relegation places going into today’s game. They are on a poor run of form at present, but they have some very good players and will prove a difficult hurdle to overcome as we try to gain another valuable three points this afternoon. The reverse fixture back in September was an entertaining game where we came back from 3-1 down to get a point with late goals from Andre Gray and Stefan Johansen. That game should be a reminder that Reading have quality in their ranks and we need to be fully focused on the job in hand. I believe people can sometimes make the mistake of looking at league table positions or the latest run of form and expect the game ahead to be a formality in terms of winning. Football does not work like that and, while form and league position can be a guide, you still have to earn every point you get and make sure you are prepared and ready for every opponent and the challenge they throw at you. The Championship is such a tough league that, if you are not quite at the levels you need to be at, you will come unstuck and lose games. I am sure we will be fully focused, ready and determined to do all we can to get the result we want today. I am writing these notes after the 0-0 draw with Swansea City. Reflecting on the game, it is fair to say we were not at our best by any means against a Swansea team who like to dominate possession and are a good side. Chances in the game were few and far between, but we had a couple of decent opportunities that we didn’t take and also had an effort come back off the inside of the post. HOOPS frustrated and disappointed having not won the game. However, looking at the positives to take from the game, it is another point on the board which could prove to be very valuable in the long run and also keeps our good unbeaten run going to six games, five of which are in the league. Thirteen points from a possible 15 on offer in those five games is an excellent return. Defensively, it’s another clean sheet and we are still fourth in the table, so we are in a very good position as we come into today’s game. The table is very tight and there is still such a long way to go in the season, but every point matters and has to be earned. One thing for sure is that there will be twists and turns and bumps in the road over the coming weeks and months. Can I take this opportunity to welcome new signing Dion Sanderson and hope his time here with us is successful both for Dion and for the club. Dion will add real competition for places in defensive areas, which can only be a good thing over the next few months, and all of us here at the club wish him well. Finally, I am sure you will join me in extending a warm welcome back to Anton Ferdinand, who returns to be inducted into our popular Forever R’s club at half-time today. The challenges Anton faced during his time at the club are well documented, but I know how much he appreciated the support he received from the fans during what was an extremely difficult period for him personally. Please show Anton all your support once again this afternoon as we welcome him back and into our former players’ association.
