Luke Southwood has
made the number one
shirt his own this
season, with Brazilian
goalkeeper Rafael
Cabral recently
departing the club
after being restricted
to the bench.
Having joined Reading as
a youngster, Southwood
signed his first
professional contract in
2015, but had to wait
another five years to
make his Royals debut.
Loan spells Bath City
and Eastleigh, followed
by a season in the
Scottish Premiership
with Hamilton, gave the
young keeper valuable
playing time and he has
since seized his chance
at Reading, as well as
earning a first call-up to
the Northern Ireland
squad in November.
EXPERIENCED central defender
Michael Morrison arrived at
Reading in 2019 following a
five-year stint with Birmingham
City, where he made 183
appearances and scored 14 goals.
Having started out at Cambridge
United, Morrison then had spells
at Leicester City, Sheffield
Wednesday and Charlton –
winning promotion to the
Championship with both the
Foxes and the Addicks – before
moving on to St Andrew’s in 2014.
Since joining the Royals,
he has become a key part of their
back line, helping to guide a
relatively young squad and in now
nearing a century of appearances
for the club.
