WELCOME MESSAGE FROM THE CONFERENCE ORGANISERS<br />

On behalf of <strong>the</strong> International <strong>Scientific</strong> Committee Members and Turkish Organising Committee,<br />

I would like to welcome you to <strong>the</strong> 10 th International Conference on Diffuse Pollution und<br />

Sustainable Watershed Management (DipCon 2006) in Istanbul, Turkey.<br />

The conference will include various aspects on diffuse / non-point pollution, estimation of<br />

pollution loads, measurement and monitoring methods, impact on receiving water bodies, best<br />

management practices (BMP), and integrated watershed management (IWM). It will also cover<br />

topics on using modern tools of geographical information system (GIS) and remote sensing (RS)<br />

in identification and monitoring of diffuse pollution, emissions <strong>from</strong> traffic, ecotoxicology,<br />

modelling, institutional regulatory framework and policy development, social and economic<br />

issues.<br />

We welcome scientists, engineers, academicians, government officials, practitioners and students<br />

to discuss <strong>the</strong>se issues and to share knowledge among <strong>the</strong> participants.<br />

The Conference <strong>Program</strong> has four parallel sessions of oral presentations, poster presentations, a<br />

workshop on emissions <strong>from</strong> traffic and a welcome cocktail, a gala diner and a technical tour to<br />

Terkos reservoir and its watershed. More than 200 participants <strong>from</strong> all over 37 countries will join<br />

<strong>the</strong> conference.<br />

The Conference Venue is located at downtown Istanbul. You can get easily to any place by taxi,<br />

tram or bus. We hope you will have time to visit this old and historical metropolis and have a<br />

good experience of Turkish Culture.<br />

DAY 1<br />

Morning flight to Izmir. Drive to Ephesus which is known to be <strong>the</strong> commercial,<br />

<strong>the</strong> religious and <strong>the</strong> social Center of Antiquity, and one of <strong>the</strong> highlights of any<br />

visit in Turkey. After <strong>the</strong> turkish cuisine at lunch, visit to <strong>the</strong> House of Virgin<br />

Mary, where she spent last days of her life.The next stop is <strong>the</strong> Archaeological<br />

Museum of Ephesus. Drive back to Izmir.<br />

DAY 2<br />

Following breakfast, depart for a full day tour of Pergamon, <strong>the</strong> great center of<br />

culture and capital of East-Roman-Empire with <strong>the</strong> numerous remains<br />

including <strong>the</strong> celebrated Library, <strong>the</strong> steepest Theatre of Anatolia, <strong>the</strong> Temples<br />

of Trajan and Dionysos. After lunch with Turkish specialities, visit to <strong>the</strong><br />

Archaeological Museum of Bergama, proceed to <strong>the</strong> Medical Center of <strong>the</strong><br />

ancient world, Asclepion where <strong>the</strong> first pyschological treatment had been used<br />

DAY 2<br />

After breakfast, visit to Perge, one of <strong>the</strong> most important cities of<br />

ancient Pamphilya. Lunch will be taken at a local restaurant. The<br />

performances of classical plays are held in Aspendos during Opera<br />

and Balet Festival every year.<br />

- Poster size : Poster presenters have to prepare posters of maximum size of 700 mm width<br />

- Setting up <strong>the</strong> posters: Half of <strong>the</strong> posters will be displayed on September 19 th , 2006<br />

Tuesday, and <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r half on September 20 th , 2006 Wednesday.<br />

Exhibition period for each set is <strong>from</strong> 10.30 – 17.00. The presenters must attend to conference<br />

floor and stand in front of <strong>the</strong>ir own posters during coffee breaks and at noon time (13.30-<br />
