Dear Parishioners,
The annual celebration of St. Elizabeth's Feast on November 19 th is approaching. We will be
holding our communal celebration on the following Sunday, November 22 nd . This year it falls on
the last Sunday of the Church year which is when we also commemorate the Feast of Christ the
King.
The convergence of these two Feasts is fortuitous as St. Elizabeth is known for her work with the
poor and the forgotten of society. She saw Christ in everyone including the underprivileged and
treated everyone accordingly. For this she was looked down on, jeered and evicted from her
matrimonial home. In order to live our lives as God and Christ taught us, we also need to be
prepared to go against some of our present day norms.
Today the general media does not spend much time on our Saints and the role that they play as our
guardians and patrons here on earth. Instead we hear about 'spirits', 'invisible forces', 'different
forms of intelligence', and 'spirits looking for homes'.... Yet we have our Guardian Saints. Our
Catholic Faith teaches us that if we ask our Saints to intercede on our behalf with God, then they
will do so. They are not competitive forces; but rather they help us to enrich and grow God's
greatness, his superiority above everything. God is all seeing, takes care of us. Everyone who
believes can understand this.
St. Elizabeth of Hungary was given the treasures of faith by Christ in exchange for her devotion.
She gladly relinquished all earthly goods for this. Let us renew our faith with the help of this sainted
daughter of King Andrew II, ask her to intercede on our behalf so that we too can partake in the
treasures of heaven.
Father Tamas G. Forrai SJ. Principal of the Fenyi Gyula Highscchool in Miskolc will return to be
the guest speaker at our Celebratory Mass and at the Banquet following. Let us pray that his words
will inspire us to become better Christians and that his remarks at the banquet will help us to
connect to our Hungarian roots.
On November 7 th and 8 th our annual Church Bazaar will take place. This is presented by the many
hardworking groups and parishioners in our congregation to ensure the financial soundness of our
parish. On everybody's behalf a heartfelt thanks for their hard work. Please remember that if you are
dropping off a donation for the bazaar that it be new as the church no longer has rummage sales and
has no way of getting rid of used items.
May St. Elizabeth look out for our safety, and help us all.
