Aside from the traditional markets there is a number of
winter outdoor activities that can help make the waiting
period until Christmas go by much more quickly.
Mozartplatz offers a perfectly smooth ice rink for beginners
and pros. And if skating is not your thing you can just observe
and have a mug of mulled wine on the audience seats
outside the rink. As soon as picturesque Krauthügel, at
the foot of the Hohensalzburg Castle, is covered in snow,
Salzburg’s most well-known inner-city hill turns into a
hotspot for daring tobogganists – the hill is short, steep,
and tons of fun! During the Christmas period a trip to
Oberdorf and its “Silent Night Chapel” is a must, too. The
song Silent Night, Holy Night was composed here and the
place is perfect for experiencing that holiday magic of past
times and properly get into the mood.
