It's mid Summer, and we couldn't be happier at 

teenLook. Although, here in Alberta it has been 4-5 

weeks of rain for our Summer so far! The weather may 

be dreary, but the pages of teenLook are lit up with all 

of the talented teens submitting and that are featured 

here! Seriously, the support has been amazing! Every 

issue keeps growing and reaching further out into the 

world. Especially now that Dara is on the staff list, 

helping with marketing and communicating with you 

guys on our social media networks. She is terrific and 

a truly talented lady in her own right. Our joining 

up here to make teenLook a better publication was a 

move that came naturally as we both have the same 

interests at heart. Letting the teen talent out there get 

seen and inspired to continue pursuing their dreams. 

This issue is aimed in that direction by having a guy 

on the cover! It is tough to get teen boys to submit 

their photos, and I want to encourage them to be as 

much a part of this as the girls. Ethan is pretty new to 

the industry, but as soon as I saw his submissions, I 

knew the direction for our next cover was to include 

him on it. In our last issue, Talayna was flawless as 

we remembered Audrey Hepburn. I hope you will 

agree that Ethan radiated the feel and look of Film 

Icon, James Dean, for this feature. I contacted John 

Oland of Motoparts about using a few of his vintage 

bikes from his collection for the cover shoot. He was 

immediately supportive and felt honoured to be included 

in the work we are doing. The day of the shoot 

was mixed with rain and clouds, but we just let it add 

to the drama of the shoot. It was a perfect time. I will 

be adding a section to the website that will include 

more photos for the cover shoots, as only a few can be 

included in the features here in the magazine. Lots of 

things are being added and changing to bring a better 

publication for all of you. Another development is 

merch that will be created for purchase to show your 

love and support and a way to show your teen spirit!

I am beyond excited to officially be a part of 

teenLook! When I first met James and heard about 

the adventure he was about to embark on, I knew I 

had to be involved somehow.

"We were told the air was 

safe down there and it 

wasn't. But you know what, 

that doesn't matter. Because 

we would have went in anyway. 

Because that's what we 

do. It's not a job for us. It's a 

calling." 

With the 18'th anniversary of the 

9/11 terror attacks coming up 

next month, I want to take a moment 

to reflect on the passing of 

a fighter and warrior who left us 

June 29, 2019. Luis Alvarez was 

one of the many first responders 

at ground zero when the twin 

towers fell Sept. 11, 2001. 

He is one of the 50,000+ people 

suffering from 9/11 related cancer 

and fought until his death to help 

ensure all first responders affected 

would be taken care of. Their 

work that day and for the many 

weeks spent thereafter, searching 

for survivors in one of the most 

devastating terror attacks, 

now taking its toll on them all 

these years later. 

Cancer knows no borders. 

Many of us in every part of this 

world, know someone suffering 

from this terrible disease. My 

step-father, who was diagnosed 

with mesothelioma a year and 

a half ago, is fighting his battle 

against it. Seeing the world he 

lives in shrinking around him 

and my mom, is heartbreaking. 

They loved to camp and were out 

several times a year, but earlier 

this year, they sold the truck and 

RV, knowing it would not be possible 

to go out again. Their daily 

routines and activities are becoming 

less frequent as the pain takes 

over. Our recent trip last week 

was tough on all of us, as I know 

this will be the last time he will 

spend with his granddaughters. 

Many people put their lives at risk 

every day to help others around 

them. They are first responders. 

My brother is a paramedic and 

fights every shift to save lives. My 

wife is a nurse and does her part 

to improve the quality of life for 

others. 

You may know some that are 

close to you or maybe they are 

complete strangers that you see 

rushing to an emergency. For 

Luis, his fight was to help safeguard 

the quality of care to those 

that helped alongside him during 

the recovery of the 9/11 terror 

attacks. He raised his voice to 

congress to be heard up to the last 

couple of weeks before his death. 

Ensuring that the financial aid 

would be given to those affected 

by 9/11 related cancer. 

Our hearts and prayers go 

out to all fighting the fight 

that is their calling. 

It all started with an interview. James wanted to 

feature a story about me and my career as a teen 

model; my experience of it and how it has now led 

me here. We are two creatives on one platform! 

Our visions for this magazine align so well! We are 

all about showcasing the incredible teen talent 

that we have surrounding us! We want all forms of 

teen talent to be featured and provide a beautiful 

platform to do so. Putting a spotlight on our fantastic 

local talent here in Canada is so important to us, 

but also it is equally essential for us to showcase 

international teens. 

We want to show teens 

around the world, the 

different cultures and 

ethnicities that are 

doing what we all love 

in their own heritage. 

Our goal for the 

magazine is to continue 

to showcase the stars 

of our future, provide 

inspiration and motivation 

on creative teen talent!

Meet Meredith, a 15 year-old 

model from Edmonton, Alberta. 

Born in Miami, Florida, but now 

residing in Edmonton, Meredith 

loves modelling and acting, loves 

to listen to music, playing sports, 

volunteer and is an animal lover. 

Since she was two years old, 

she showed her interest in 

modelling and acting. At four 

years of age, she participated in 

her first fashion show and has 

since gone on to competitions. 

She recently participated in 

Canada Galaxy Pageants

Meet Sasha, a 15 year-old 

model from Australia.

Sasha started her modelling 

journey just one year ago, entering 

a modelling competition at 14 years 

of age. Having never walked on a 

runway or catwalk before and out 

of 65 girls, she was runner up, and 

from there it snowballed. 

Sasha was asked by numerous 

photographers to shoot with them 

and has done over 35 shoots and 

walked a few runways since. 

Represented by 

Mystique Models in Brisbane, 

providing us with invaluable 

training and lots of support 

for her modelling career. 

Sasha loves photo shoots and 

everything that comes with 

modelling and would love to do 

more runway work over the next 

few years and hopefully model

I live on a ranch in Southern 

Saskatchewan where we raise 

Appaloosa horses. 

I enjoy riding, singing, cooking and 

spending time with all our animals. 

Having been accepted into Beauty 

school, I will be moving to Moose 

Jaw after graduating next year.

Meet Coleton, a model from 

Camrose, Alberta. 

I'm going into Grade 11, and 

Basketball is my sport of choice. I 

started Modelling/Acting when I was 

13 and have been in roughly 7 USA 

model magazines. 

I have done some runway work, 

and photo shoots for promotional 

purposes as well. So far, my most 

significant opportunity was when I 

received an invitation to an Acting 

program for CGTV last summer in 

Hollywood. That was cool! I learned 

a lot and made a great vacation 

out of the time while I was there. I 

had Hollywood actors and several 

agents come in and audition me for 

a sitcom. I was called back by three 

Agencies right in Los Angeles. 

Right now, I am prepping as I 

have been chosen to be a part 

of Vancouver fashion week. I am 

hoping to model internationally 

within the year. 

I am trying to get as many jobs as I 

can so I have enough tear offs to go 

down to the States for work in both 

Modelling and Acting. To get a work 

Visa in acting/modelling for the US, 

Canadians need a specific # of jobs 

(tear-offs) 

I have BIG dreams, and I hope to 

someday be a big part of the Acting/ 

Modelling world!

Andrea and Gavin met in 2018 at 

Canadian Dance Unit, where they 

trained together for a year, Andrea's 

first and Gavin's last year with the 

studio. Through many dance classes, 

late rehearsals and hectic local and 

travelling competition weekends, 

the two managed to build a strong 

bond. Even being at different studios 

now, Andrea and Gavin maintain 

their friendship online and in real 

life, supporting each other's growth 

and cheering for one another when 

competing or attending conventions 

together. 



Andrea is a hardworking, ambitious and 

talented 9 year-old girl, a competitive 

dancer with Canadian Dance Unit in Bolton, 

Ontario, an aspiring actress and model. She fell in 

love with dance from her very first ballet class at 

just under three years of age. She has been actively 

pursuing her passion ever since, having changed 

several studios in the process. Aside from numerous 

regional and national competitions under her belt, 

Andrea has also competed at the World Dance 

Championship as part of National Team Canada 

Dance 2018. She took the world stage in Warsaw, 

Poland, amongst so many talented dancers 

from around the world, and helped 

bring home 2 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 

Bronze medals in the Children’s 

Division. During the summer 

months, Andrea is 

Working on her technique and strength, attending 

several reputable workshops and intensives, while 

also giving back to the community by performing 

at the Toronto International Dance Festival and the 

Toronto International Youth Dance Festival. Through 

the fall, outside of the regular studio hours, Andrea 

will be training with the Toronto International Ballet 

Theatre to perform in “The Nutcracker” at the Meridian 

Hall in Toronto (ex Sony center) in December 2019. 

Aside from Dance, Andrea is also exploring her 

potential in acting and modelling, having just recently 

signed with Max Talent Agency in Toronto and Dent 

Model Magazine online. Her publication debut 

was almost immediate with the first feature in 

CanKids Magazine. This was followed up 

by Dreamy Magazine, Ivy Magazine 

and Wild Child Magazine, where 

she landed VIP Model status.

Gavin Merkac, 10, has been 

dancing since he was six 

years old. He is the son of 

a former professional dancer and 

a hockey player, now turned international 

CrossFit Athlete. He is a 

competitive dancer at Art & Soul 

Dance Company in Kleinburg, Ontario, 

where he spends most of his 

afternoon and weekends. Gavin’s 

passions are all things dance, and he 

loves it all, not favouring any particular 

style or genre. Training throughout 

the year, in and outside of the 

studio, attending various workshops 

and conventions, as well as taking 

classes with guest choreographers 

when available. Gavin has three sisters 

and one brother. When Gavin 

isn’t dancing, he spends time training 

in CrossFit with his father and enjoys 

reading many books.

Meet Rae, an 11 year-old 

model from Edmonton, AB. 

Rae has competed in local pageants 

for the past seven years and is going 

to Toronto in Aug to compete in 

the Miss Canada Globe pageant. 

She has found a love for modelling, 

fashion shows and has even been in 

a commercial this year for the Telus 

World of Science - the Mythbusters 

exhibit, it was being played in 

Alberta theatres before movies. 

RaeAnne has chosen Little Warriors to 

be her platform of choice for her reign as 

Miss Pre teen Canada Globe 2019-20. 

Last year she raised $2000 

for our local women's shelters. 

In the pre-teen division, they interview 

a bunch of girls, and they chose 

RaeAnne to hold the title. Next 

year she travels to the Dominican 

Republic to represent Canada in 

the International Beauty pageant :) 

She walked in the Ethno fashion 

show last May 2019, and she was 

the lead model for Dan Kilele (owner/ 

creator of the Ethno Fashion Show). 

She has been going to model 

castings and doing quite a bit of local 

modelling. This summer is packed with 

opportunities!

Julia's journey into photography 

started by accident. Little did she 

know that one day she would become a 

professional photographer. 

From a young age, Julia was always 

fond of beautiful images and could 

spent hours gazing at pictures. She 

could visualize stills within the 

motion of life and could hold the 

images of moments already gone, but 

becoming a photographer was not 

something she aspired to, given her 

first experience with the camera was 

not very successful. Imagine a black 

and white Olympus in the hands of a 

9 year old, the all black, bright white 

or blurry images and the frustration 

and confusion that accompanied them. 

Julia was positive she would never 

touch a camera again, but life proved 

her wrong. 

When the new era of digital cameras 

emerged Julia saw an opportunity to 

try the camera again and bought her 

first Nikon. Julia shared her excitement 

over her new toy with her friend, who 

also became her first client. Julia's first 

paid job was a kids birthday party and 

within those two hours she managed 

to take over a thousand images. Later 

Julia had to spend many long hours 

selecting and editing those photos 

before she could deliver them to her 

friend. It took her years to simplify the 

process and become as efficient as she 

is today. 

Over the last five years Julia has 

taken numerous courses and training 

to sharpen those natural skills, 

participated in workshops, and had 

hundreds of photo shoots. 

Every photo session would bring both 

excitement and challenges. Every new 

client requires new and interesting 

ideas and a unique approach. 

Creativity and patience are a big part 

of who Julia is and why her clients love 

working with her. 

For the love of photography, Julia 

transformed her living room into a 

studio, while the rest of the house 

stores a variety of props for any 

occasion. From maternity and 

newborn, to business and modeling 

portfolios, Julia does it all. Whether 

it's a smash cake session or a wedding, 

Julia has you covered. She will often 

conduct a meet & greet session in 

advanced, to get an understanding of 

each client's desires and expectations, 

as well as consult them on the best 

approach or offer suggestions and 

wardrobe advice. When weather 

cooperates Julia also loves shooting 

outside to capture her clients and the 

beauty of some natural settings. 

Though Julia does all kinds of photo 

services and works with people of all 

ages, her favorite age group is older 

kids and teenagers. There is something 

about them that makes them free 

spirited and natural, but also easy to 

manage and coordinate. They have joy 

of youth with a flavor of maturity, they 

are fresh and open to ideas and even to 

try something crazy at times. 

Being a very shy person Julia never 

thought she'd be able to work with 

people she doesn't know, however 

when she is behind the camera she 

becomes invisible and focuses only on 

what she wants to achieve as a result. 

Julia can lay on the ground, climb the 

fence, show her models how to pose 

and sometimes even entertain them 

using a clown nose. One time Julia

had to actually hide between pews and 

really blend with the guests to capture 

a baptism in a Catholic church where 

photography was not permitted. But 

she later realized she was spotted when 

the minister said in his final speech, 

“Anything is possible when you set 

your mind to it. Even photography in 

the ceremony that is not allowed.” 

Julia believes that photography makes 

her a better person, helps her grow in 

every aspect, helps understand life and 

makes time stop with every click of the 

camera, giving her clients the gift of 

time, those immortalized moments, 

whether a smile, or a look or a simple 

gesture. Photography is what shapes 

Julia's dreams, her plans for future and 

her life.

I 

have been a photographer for 

many years and have enjoyed 

every minute. I have enjoyed 

volunteering my time to give back 

to others when I can. I have been 

happily involved with NILMDTS, 

Help Portrait, BEautiful Me and the 

International Children’s Festival. I 

enjoy all types of photography, but 

I would call myself a portrait and 

fashion photographer. These are the 

areas I enjoy capturing the most. 

I think the bottom line is I love 

working with people and doing my 

best to capture the emotion in any 

type of photo shoot I might be doing. 

For me photography is a passion and 

by keeping it part-time I have been 

able to keep that passion alive. 

The last few years I have become very 

involved in the model scene here in 

the Edmonton area and I have been 

blessed to have been able to work 

with so many amazing models, 

Make-up artists, Hair Stylists, 

designers, other photographers and 

of course moms who have given their 

children unconditional love and 

support which has helped their sons 

& daughters reach for their dreams. 

I enjoy trying to make all my shoots 

fun and helping models see the 

amazing potential they all have. As 

long as I continue to learn and grow 

as a photographer, I hope to do this

When it comes to iconic film stars 

and celebrities, usually three 

names will come to mind. Marylin 

Monroe, Elvis Presley, and 

James Dean. 

The film industry of the 50s was 

mostly filled with Biblical epics and 

Historical Masterpieces. Life on screen 

was portrayed as idyllic and perfect. 

But there was an restless group of the 

viewing audience that wanted to see 

life the way it really was for them. 

America's restless youth. 

These teenagers instantly identified 

with James' onscreen performance of 

Cal Trask in East of Eden, a role that 

mirrored James' own life. His role of a 

despondent son, without a mother and 

unable to please his father, came to life 

easily and honestly on screen. So real 

in fact that this relatively unknown 

actor sat down to watch the screening 

of the film, completely unrecognized, 

but by the end, he walked out a star. It 

happened that fast. 

Up to this point, James had always 

been pursuing his acting career. 

Appearing in some commercials, and 

on film and stage, but it wasn't until 

1951 when he moved to New York to 

pursue acting seriously. He wanted 

nothing else than to become a star. 

Life was hard, and he was often broke 

and unable to pay his rent; sometimes 

going days between meals. Never 

giving up on his dreams, he was always 

searching for the next gig to propel 

him to stardom. 

He was a difficult actor to work with 

for both fellow actors and directors 

alike. He would continuously do his 

own thing during rehearsals. Making 

life difficult for everyone on set, but 

when it came time to perform, then his 

true grit and honesty would shine, and 

that's what caught peoples attention.

Off the set, he was reticent and moody. 

If you came up to him as a fan or 

showing him your appreciation for his 

work and gushing over him, he wasn't 

interested. He wanted the honest 

opinion of people who saw him and 

his work for what it was. 

Genuine. 

At first glance, many people didn't 

think much of the young actor. He 

never carried himself as a star or acted 

that way. Most often, the complete 

opposite. Remaining quiet and aloof at 

events, preferring to be on his own. 

The most significant danger in James' 

life was his lack of fear. He loved speed 

and was becoming an exceptional race 

car driver in between filming. He loved 

motorcycles and fast cars. 

His acting career was brief, with only 

just a little over a year's worth of film 

work, making three films in total. East 

of Eden, Rebel without a cause, and 

Giant. 

Even in that short period, James 

Dean has become one of the most 

recognizable household names. His 

portrayal and personification of the 

American teenager through his life 

and films has made him unforgettable. 

Sadly, his career and life were cut short 

while on route to a race. September 30, 

1955, James' Porsche 550 Spyder was 

involved in an accident, and he was 

killed at the age of 24. 

The two latter films were released after 

his death, and he was nominated for 

two academy awards.

Meet Ethan, a 16 year-old model from 

Edmonton, AB. 

Ethan has just launched onto the modelling 

scene this past May and is hitting it with 

everything he's got! 

Born and raised in Edmonton, Ethan 's other 

passion is soccer. He's been playing for ten 

years. 

When I received Ethan's submission, I instantly 

went with my intuition for choosing him to be 

this month's cover model. Following up from 

the Audrey Hepburn cover feature last month, 

I felt Ethan's look was perfect for our James 

Dean feature.

Meet Abby-Leigh, a 14 yearold 

model from the UK. 

Abby was scouted aged 12 at central 

station Newcastle by Elle. 

She has since been signed with 

Smodels in Germany and Capature 

Models in the northeast of England. 

Even at this young age, she is already in 

development with a significant agency 

(IMG) 

Abby has had many health issues the 

past 18 months and is fighting back. 

She has worked with many 

incredible brands, small and large. 

She is an anti-bullying advocate and 

helps to run team one race the human 

race UK and Europe. A worldwide nonprofit 

organization formed by kids around 

the world. 

Abby quickly realized bullying and hate 

comes in many forms. She gives others 

a voice that may have lost theirs, by 

speaking up for them. You only need to

Arianna is a competitive figure skater 

and has been skating for six years

modelling world under Patti Falconer

In my free time, I enjoy camping and 

hiking with my family and friends and 

generally enjoy any outdoor activities.

group in my community and perform

Meet Sofia, a 12 year-old 

model from Calgary, Aberta. 

Sofia is a typical 12-year old girl who 

loves to play sports and made every 

team in her first year eligible in Junior 

High (Grade 7). Some of her favourite 

sports are volleyball, badminton, flag 

football and soccer. Coming from a 

home with a brother with disabilities, 

Sofia has a good head on her 

shoulders. She is empathetic, kind and 

outgoing. She would love to pursue a 

career in modelling or acting, but she 

also understands that she is still young, 

and there is lots of life to be had before 

her time comes. 

As they say,

Count what you love about yourself. 

This can sometimes be tricky… you may think the 

idea of sitting down and writing up what you love 

about yourself strange, but it will help you so much 

in low moments. In difficult times, when you really 

aren't feeling your best, looking back at what you are 

proud about or even some of your accomplishments 

can make a huge difference in how you think. Just 

remember this- we have low moments so we can 

appreciate the high, and everything will work itself out.

Sometimes it's not always easy to feel good 

about yourself- you may think that you 

are the only one who struggles with selfesteem 

and self-confidence, but trust me, at some 

point, we all do. My self-esteem and confidence 

have not always been as healthy as it is today. Just 

like everyone else, I've struggled with feeling bad 

about myself, doubting every action. It's normal, 

and it's not something we can avoid. However, 

this is something we can learn to deal with and 

learn to make it better. Over the last few years, I've 

realized a few things we can do to help how we 

feel about ourselves. These suggestions aren't 

things that are going to make you wake up and 

never have doubts about yourself again, but they 

are aspects that count! Last month I spoke about 

taking care of our outside, now let's talk about the 

inside. Mental Health is an essential idea to me, 

which is why I am honoured to share my thoughts 

on the subject here in Teen Look Magazine. 

Don't forget the fact that you are your most 

judgmental critic. 

Sometimes we think that others will notice the "huge" 

zit on your face or even the tiniest imperfection. In fact, 

you are the one that will notice it the most. We can't let 

the small imperfections decide how we feel, or how 

much confidence we carry. In reality, good people and 

good friends won't like you based on your looks, but 

instead your inside- your personality. A friend who is not 

there for you when you aren't looking your best is most 

likely a friend you don't want to have. You want to find 

people who only care about the true you. 

Know who you are and what you want. 

An unbearable amount of stress and disappointment is 

caused by comparing yourself to others. Everyone has 

their own unique purpose, goals, and vision. If we waste 

time looking at who is better, who is prettier, etc., we will 

feel the lowest about ourselves. It's crucial to find your 

goal, and then work towards it. 

Be appreciative and count your blessings. 

I like to take a few moments at the end of each day to 

reflect on the good in my life. I find staying positive, and 

looking at the glass half full helps me realize the bright 

side. Some examples of areas I express gratitude 

towards include friends and family. Never forget who is 

always there to support you when you fall. 

Surround yourself with people that make you feel 

amazing. 

The first step to healthy self-esteem and confidence 

is spending time with the people who care about you 

most. If you surround yourself with people who insult 

you and make you feel low about yourself, it can hurt 

the way you view yourself. I challenge you right now 

to express your gratitude towards one person who is 

always in your corner. The person who makes you feel 

fantastic about yourself.

McKayla found her passion for

Intensive (2017), The London 

Spring Tour (2018). 

She recently ventured into

cites The Dixie Chicks, Dolly Parton and Miranda Lambert 

as just a few of her musical inspirations and has benefitted 

from the guidance of her personal mentor, long-time 

Grand Ole Opry member Pam Tillis. Over the years, 

Alyssa has also greeted fans at Fan Fair X during Nashville’s 

CMA Fest and has taken the stage at Belcourt Taps, Commodore 

Grille and the Hard Rock Café.

She is also a model for Rebel 

Athletic, a popular brand in the 

cheerleading world. She has been 

featured in several magazines. 

Along with modelling, Keely 

dances, her favourite discipline 

being ballet. She also sings & is

Meet Jadia, a 15 year-old 


Jadia comes from a family of 4 and has one younger 

sister (Chloe) who is also considering modelling! 

Although I am pretty shy and quiet among my peers, 

I have always loved posing and having my picture 

taken since I was very young. I do my hair and makeup 

for the majority of my Instagram photos as I have a 

real passion for makeup, especially. 

Just over the last six months, I have focused on 

building up my followers on Instagram (11k) and 

promoting myself as a model. I have recently just 

finished my professional portfolio and plan to pursue 

more jobs and possibly sign with an agency soon. 

I have been a dancer of all genres since I was four 

years of age and enjoy cheer and art. 

I love to listen to modern music while sketching 

and painting as those are my ways to escape. 

Architecture fascinates me, so travel is a huge 

passion of mine. I have always loved looking at new 

architecture style, and I hope to one day become an 

architect alongside modelling on a professional level. 

I have always been a natural in front of the camera and 

spend any free time I have scouting out photoshoot 

locations and posing for my Instagram account. 

My new-found confidence and the support of my 

family, especially my mother, who has been by my side 

for everything, has brought me to where I am today. 

Although I plan to move away to work, travel and 

model, I will always keep my family close. I love 

how the camera brings out my true self and can 

also allow me to take on a new persona. Everyone 

assumes I am much older, and I guess I can say I am 

in a hurry to grow up while still enjoying the fun that 

comes along with being young.

my favourite sport, badminton. I also 

workout at least three days a week, no 

matter how busy I am for me to get fit 

and to stay healthy. Since I was a kid, 

I’ve always wanted to do modelling, 

and right now I want to pursue it, even 

more, looking for more opportunities. 

I took the 'Walk the talk' course because 

I wasn’t sure how to get started and 

wasn't really that confident in myself. 

After the course, my confidence level 

was totally boosted and it was a great 

experience. I learned so much! All 

thanks to Ms. Dara & Christine, Ernest, 

EDSNA & to everyone involved.
